💡 WHY PAY TO LIGHT EMPTY SPACES?
At our hotel in Busan, each bulb has a built-in motion sensor. It switches off about 20 seconds after no movement is detected within roughly 5 feet. No need for someone to remember the switch!
Imagine this in a five-story building, using these sample assumptions:
• Hallways: 10 LED bulbs per floor × 5 floors × 12 watts.
• Covered parking: 30 LED lights × 20 watts.
At ₱15 per kilowatt-hour, leaving these lights on 24/7 for 30 days consumes 864 kWh—costing ₱12,960 a month, just for these lights!
If motion sensors cut their total operating time by 50%, consumption drops to 432 kWh, costing ₱6,480 a month.
💰 Potential savings: ₱6,480 monthly—or approximately ₱77,760 yearly!
Energy efficiency isn’t just about using LED bulbs. It’s also about automatically stopping unnecessary lighting when spaces are empty. (US Department of Energy)
Note:
Illustrative lighting-only estimate, not measured hotel savings. Actual savings depend on traffic and settings. Figures exclude sensor standby power; emergency, exit, and required safety lighting are not included in the proposed shutoff.
