Send a device away for repair and here’s what that can mean: it goes in a box, sits in a queue somewhere else, waits for assessment or parts, and comes back days or sometimes weeks later.

Meanwhile, you are without the machine you actually need.

At 73inc, your MacBook stays here in Grey Lynn. Diagnostics happen here. Screen and battery repairs happen here. Liquid damage work, microsoldering and component level logic board repairs happen here too — in our own repair lab, by our own technicians.

That becomes especially valuable when a repair gets complicated. If Manu finds something unexpected on a logic board, he is already at the bench. We can discuss the finding, explain the options and keep the job moving — without waiting for another workshop, depot or courier cycle.

Cracked screen, dead battery, charging fault, coffee through the keyboard, no power, liquid damage or a strange intermittent issue — Auckland MacBook repair does not have to mean sending your MacBook out of Auckland.

We have spent years building the equipment and technical capability to handle both everyday MacBook repairs and the jobs that go far beyond a simple parts swap in-store.

The workshop isn’t somewhere else. It’s here.

Dead. No lights. No startup. Nothing.

A 2017 MacBook Pro came in looking like the kind of machine people assume needs a whole new logic board.

It didn’t.

The fault was not “the logic board.” The fault was a tiny part of it.

Testing isolated a shorted power rail and the failed components around it. That changed the job completely.

Instead of replacing the entire board, we removed it, repaired the failed section at component level, reassembled the MacBook, and bench tested it properly.

Back in service — with its original logic board still in the machine.

That is why the words “logic board failure” do not always tell you the whole story. A board can contain hundreds of perfectly good components and only a handful that have actually failed.

One useful point for older Macs too: Auckland’s humidity, combined with dust and contamination inside the machine, can contribute to corrosion and electrical problems over time. Periodic internal inspection and cleaning can be worthwhile if the Mac is still being used heavily.

Dead MacBook? It may need a board repair, not a board replacement.

Slow Mac? The important question is whether it can be made faster — or whether it has simply reached its ceiling.

Those are two very different problems.

Some Macs slow down because of things we can genuinely improve: storage running too full, ageing drives, thermal buildup, failing fans, background processes, or hardware that is no longer performing as it should.

Others are simply showing their age. Older processors, limited memory, and older storage technology can struggle with newer versions of macOS, modern browsers, cloud apps and software that demand far more than they did when the Mac was new.

That is where experience matters.

Some older Macs respond dramatically to the right upgrade or service. Others are already at the point where spending heavily would buy very little extra useful life.

We look at the whole picture — model, age, storage, memory, temperatures, software requirements and how you actually use the machine — then tell you what improvement is realistically achievable.

Sometimes the answer is a clean-out. Sometimes an SSD or hardware repair. Sometimes the Mac is simply asking newer software to do more than the hardware was ever designed for.

The goal is not to make an old Mac “feel newer.” It is to work out whether there is meaningful performance left to unlock.

Can a MacBook be exposed to moisture without a single drop ever being spilled on it?

Ever had your MacBook sitting on the kitchen bench beside a boiling pot in a steamy kitchen? We have all done it.

No one poured anything on it. But steam is still airborne moisture, and it finds its way through the keyboard and vents just like a splash would.

The difference is speed. Repeated exposure can contribute to corrosion on connectors and logic board components long before there is an obvious failure.

Unlike a coffee spill, there may be no dramatic “it just died” moment. The first signs can be much quieter: intermittent charging, random shutdowns, keyboard issues, fan behaviour, corrosion, or a MacBook that simply starts behaving strangely.

If your Mac regularly lives in a steamy kitchen, humid workspace or other damp environment, it is worth treating that as real exposure — not just background air.

And if symptoms have started, do not wait for them to become permanent. If they haven't, get ahead of it with our longevity service — a check-up now is a lot cheaper than a logic board repair later.

Macbook screens are some of the most expensive parts to replace, often second only to the logic board, and on some models even more.

But “screen replacement” does not always mean the same thing — and it definitely does not always mean buying the most expensive possible display assembly.

Depending on the model and what survived the damage, there may be several ways to repair it.

If the aluminium chassis and the rest of the display assembly are still sound, an LCD-only replacement may sometimes be possible, subject to assessment. Other machines may suit OEM, ex-display, or quality second-hand display options, depending on availability.

And the best part? Every option comes with the same warranty — the only difference is the price tag.

The useful question is “Which parts of this display actually need replacing?”

That answer can change the repair cost dramatically.

Sometimes the complete display assembly is the right repair. Sometimes replacing everything would mean paying for perfectly usable parts you already own.

If your MacBook screen is cracked, black, flickering, showing lines, or no longer displaying properly, there may be more than one way to put it right.

You emptied the Trash.

Then, ten minutes later, remembered the one folder that absolutely should not have been in it.

On a modern SSD, that is not a “deal with it tomorrow” problem. It is a stop using the device now problem.

Deleting a file usually does not erase the data instantly. The space is marked as available to be reused. But SSDs also perform background housekeeping that can permanently clear those blocks — which means every extra minute of normal use can reduce the chance of successful recovery.

So if the files matter:

Stop working.
Do not download recovery software.
Do not keep restarting it.
Do not save anything else to the drive.

At 73inc in Grey Lynn, we handle deleted-file recovery, failed SSDs, non-booting Macs and more complex data recovery cases. We assess the device carefully and, where possible, work read-only before telling you what may still be recoverable.

There are no honest guarantees with data recovery — but there is one piece of advice that genuinely improves your odds:

Stop. Then get it assessed.

A customer brought in her son’s iPad after he made a bold sporting decision.

Incoming baseball? Use the iPad as a shield.

To be fair, the save worked. The screen didn’t survive it.

It is a funny story after the fact, but it makes the real point: iPad repair is not always just “a cracked screen.” Sometimes it is impact damage. Sometimes the charging port has worn out from years of cable in, cable out. Sometimes the battery is swelling, the home button has stopped clicking, the speakers are crackling, or the iPad simply will not behave the way it should.

At 73inc in Grey Lynn, we assess what has actually failed before repair work begins. iPad screen replacement, battery issues, charging faults, button problems, speakers, software faults and more — we will explain what is fixable, what it costs, and whether the repair makes sense.

Most common iPad repairs can be turned around quickly when parts are available, and completed repairs are backed by a 90-day warranty.

Baseball defence strategy not recommended.
Proper iPad repair? Absolutely.

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.

That percentage explains a lot.

If your iPhone dies by lunchtime, shuts off while it still says 20%, feels slower than it used to, or lives permanently attached to a charger — do not guess. Check the number.

Once battery health drops below 80%, replacement is worth considering. But plenty of people wait much longer because they have slowly adjusted their whole day around a tired battery.

Charging in the car. Charging at work. Carrying a power bank. Turning the brightness down. Closing apps that are not the real problem.

The fix is usually simpler than the routine you have built around it.

At 73inc in Grey Lynn, iPhone battery replacement starts from $55–$345 depending on model, with most completed same-day and a 90-day warranty included.

Go check the number. Then decide whether your battery is still serving you — or you are serving it.

MacBook problems rarely arrive neatly labelled.

One comes in with a cracked screen. Another will not charge. Another has coffee through the keyboard. Another powers on for three seconds, then dies. Another looks completely finished — until the actual fault turns out to be one failed component on the logic board.

That is the work we do every day at 73inc.

Screen replacements, battery replacements, charging faults, liquid damage, keyboards, trackpads, data concerns, overheating, and component-level logic-board repairs — we see the obvious faults, the weird faults, and the ones that only show themselves after proper testing.

The goal is simple: work out what your MacBook actually needs, tell you clearly, and repair it properly when it makes sense to do so.

Completed repairs are backed by a 90-day warranty, and you will know the cost before repair work begins.

Got a MacBook that is cracked, dead, slow, hot, liquid-damaged, or just behaving strangely?

Bring it in and let us take a proper look.
