Not by phishing.
Not by brute force.
By a single poisoned dependency that was live for 40 minutes.

That's the LiteLLM breach, the largest AI supply chain attack of 2026.
Attackers compromised a trusted security scanner, which silently infected LiteLLM's build, which got pulled into 434,000 CI/CD pipelines automatically. SSH keys, cloud credentials, AI API keys, all harvested from runner memory.

No one got hacked directly. The automation did all the work.

So what does this mean for your team?

If you're running AI tools in production, your build pipeline is a live attack surface. Here's what we'd recommend doing this week:

→ Stop pinning dependencies to "latest." Pin to verified hashes.
→ Audit what your CI/CD actually installs at runtime, not just what's in your lockfile.
→ Rotate every credential your build environment can touch. Not just the obvious ones.
→ Treat your AI gateway like you treat your database. It holds the keys to everything around it.

This Independence Day, we swapped keyboards for paintbrushes. Teams came together to create artwork in the colours of the tricolour, each one a small tribute to the spirit of freedom, unity and everything this day stands for.
