I watched forty people arrive carrying different versions of themselves.

Some walked in chatting confidently. Others quietly found a seat and looked at the blank canvas in front of them, wondering where to begin.

And then, slowly, the room softened.

Brushstrokes replaced overthinking. Strangers became conversation partners. Laughter traveled from one easel to the next. Paint found its way onto fingertips, sleeves and canvases, exactly where it belonged.

This is the part that keeps calling me back.

It never stops amazing me how creativity asks so little of us, just the willingness to begin.

Under the trees at Tide 6 Modern Bistro, with Stefan Steyn's music drifting through the air, a fire crackling nearby and the afternoon unfolding around us, everyone gave themselves permission to play again.

Some stayed long after the workshop had ended, because they weren't quite ready to leave that feeling behind. Adding one more mark... then another...

These are my favourite moments.

Thank you to Chef Lize van der Merwe for bringing this delightful gathering to life and for capturing these moments so beautifully.

My heart is already looking forward to the next one…

IN OORVLOED

Sagkens dryf sy tot verskyn
Blom-oase in dorre woestyn
Reënboog strek deur
Asemrowend in elke kleur

Water klots en spoel oor klip
Deur die voetpad
Weg
Natuurskoon, sy hou my hart eg

My koppie stort
In oorvloed
Beskik ek nou

Vul dan die harte van die om my
Hul pierinkies leeg en verkul

Night at the Museum Murder Mystery Clue Film
Step inside the halls of the Swakopmund Museum and inside a fictional story. Uncover the secrets hidden in a town divided by power, privilege, and betrayal. Step inside the blood-curdling story written and conceptualised by the Swakopmund Museum Youth Ambassadors!

Set in a world recovering from war, this Murder Mystery story follows a council meeting called by Mayor Will von Grant to decide the future of the town. What begins as a debate over food, healthcare, and rebuilding soon reveals old wounds, forbidden love, jealousy, and long-buried resentment.

Ten years after a tragic loss changed the lives of many, tensions rise once more when one of the mayor's trusted servants is found dead under suspicious circumstances.

Every character has a motive. Every decision has consequences. And somewhere among them lies the truth.

Can you solve the mystery?

We can experiment.
We can change our minds.
We can make mistakes, paint over them, and discover that they were never mistakes at all.

I wonder how often we give ourselves that same permission in everyday life.
Maybe that's why creating feels so refreshing.

Not because we're making something beautiful...
but because, for a little while, we're reminded that it's okay not to have everything figured out.

Perhaps that's what creativity has been trying to teach us all along.

BOTANICAL MONOPRINTING ARTY PARTY

There’s something about creating inside someone’s home that changes the rhythm of everything.

The space softens. People slow down. And suddenly, a table becomes a small studio of possibility.

This past weekend I facilitated a BOTANICAL MONOPRINTING ARTY PARTY. A private workshop filled with watercolour washes, lino ink textures, and plant forms pressed into paper like quiet little memories.

We worked with what was already there: leaves gathered from the garden, ink that never behaves the same way twice, watercolour bleeding into unexpected places.

And I noticed again how quickly people shift when they stop trying to “get it right” and start responding to what’s actually happening in front of them. The marks get bolder. The hands relax. Something familiar but forgotten starts to surface.

These kinds of sessions always feel less like teaching and more like remembering.

If you’ve been feeling a pull toward something more tactile, more expressive, more honest, it might not be a new skill you’re missing. It might just be space to begin.

At this rate, I'm about to become The Art House unofficial brand ambassador. 😂

One of the greatest gifts of moving to a new town has been finally making space for things I never had time for before, or wasn't in the right season to say yes to.

Every time I try something new, I feel like I meet another version of myself.

Lately, that looks like creating with my hands, speaking my truth a little more freely, and worrying a little less about being seen.

I've noticed everytime i express myself authentically life responds with the right people and new opportunities appear. It feels like I'm co-creating with life instead of pushing against it. Maybe that's what manifestation really is? 🤷🏽‍♀️

And chalk pastels... where have you been all my life?

The velvety texture, the colours, the dust on your fingertips and the freedom to play, is oddly addictive. My inner child is satisfied 😌

If your soul has been craving something lately, maybe it isn't rest. Maybe it's expression?!

Create something.
Say yes. And see what happens.
