Google says PMAX takes care of audiences automatically.
Kirk Williams decided to test that claim.
He built custom audiences around expectant mothers - strollers, infant formula, newborn research. Added them into shopping campaigns as observation only signals.
Performance went up.
Google never officially confirmed it matters. But the results did.
The lesson for every ecommerce brand running PMAX: audiences in PMAX are not audiences. They are signals. And better signals mean better performance.
