Some people join a company. Some grow so closely with it that they become a part of its journey. And, Ashray Simpi’s journey is a testament to that.
Ashray first walked into Kazam for the interview of a video editor. He spoke to co-founder Vaibhav Tyagi at length about editing, but even more about the art and cinematography of anime. VT offered him the job on the spot.
In the past 5 years, Ashray has worn many hats - from being featured in Kazam’s videos and editing them, to reviewing vehicles, getting founders to do memes for engagement, and managing Mission Lucknow, a Kazam project, which helped empower local people to earn from the city’s growing demand for EV charging. Today, he’s a Manager in Trade Marketing. Everything, he says, has shaped him as a person.
Ashray has thoroughly enjoyed understanding audiences, products, vendors and on-ground experiences, he quips. Ashray always had a knack for storytelling and a funny bone. Today, he brings that same storyteller’s instinct to trade marketing - beginning not with the content, but with the people it needs to reach.
“I joined just as a video editor. Today, I understand the audience first.”
Bharat Mobility remains one of the projects closest to him. From coordinating with vendors and agencies to understanding power requirements and bringing a gamified charging experience to life, it pushed him into unfamiliar territory, and showed him just how much he had grown. And most recently, Ashray worked on Kazam’s ‘Home Charging Anthem’. “That’s something I’m really proud of because no one else in the industry has done anything like it.” He credits Vani Vivek, the VP of Marketing at Kazam, for always pushing him to do better.
But when Ashray looks back, he remembers more than the projects. He remembers conversations on the old office terrace, meals shared with teammates, mentors who trusted him before the role fully existed, and colleagues who taught him something new at every stage.
Ask him to describe Kazam in one word, and his answer is: an athlete - driven, hardworking and always ready to keep moving forward.
In many ways, that describes Ashray too.
PS: Credits to Ashray for the killer soundtrack :)
