Ultimately, history repeats itself: it wasn't bronze itself that mattered, it was who could use it to project power. And it wasnโ€™t the printing press per se, but rather who controlled what was printed.

The next big role in AI-assisted software development?

Senior Emergent Systems Archaeologist.

SESA, for short.

Deep systems expertise. Comfort with ambiguity. Debugging instincts. Rapid prototyping. God-tier levels of patience.

Companies are vibe-coding their way into systems nobody fully understands anymore. Some of the code is deliberately architected, some assembled at speed under deadline pressure.

The result is a codebase with layers that are load-bearing, decorative, or just plain unexplained.

This role exists to stop the whole thing from becoming fragile, risky, and unsustainable.

Someone who excavates carefully. Knows what's structural before touching it. Rebuilds what needs rebuilding. Without bringing down everything stacked on top.

We think this is prime territory for hired guns: contractors and interims. Might even revive a contract market that's been flat for years.

A typical engagement:

Initial excavation โ€” what happened, in plain language
Layer identification โ€” root cause and contributing factors
Artefacts recovered โ€” what was learned, what was salvaged
Site stabilisation โ€” the fix, and what stops it happening again

Not sure how to find a good tech recruitment partner?

Try the mystery shopper approach.

Apply to one of their jobs.

Ask for impartial, non-commercial advice.

Anything except a supplier pitch.

How they treat you when there's no obvious commercial upside will speak volumes about their professionalism and integrity.

Youโ€™re welcome.

Tokenmaxxing isn't the flex you think it is.

Neither is shipping 10,000 lines to prod.

Vibe-coded slop is still slop.

Understand the problem first.

No garlic required.

Folklore ties silver to warding off threats: werewolves, vampires, things that go bump in the night.

Youโ€™ll be the ward against a different kind of threat...

Technical debt, scope creep, that production incident in the middle of the night that nobody wants to own.

Silver sits at the intersection of chemistry, economics and history.

You'll sit with Product and Engineering teams to understand their workflows and design bespoke AI-powered solutions.

The chemistry will be electric.

The savings will be real.

And youโ€™ll be making history.

Aw man thatโ€™s so sweet.

"I see your (sic) hiring for a Engineer. We've got the perfect candidate. Quick call?"

Standard cold outreach these days. Increasingly so. Oh thank you, AI. Truly a gift to us all.

Look, business development matters. Nobody's disputing that.

But ๐˜ฑ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ฆ get the basics right.

Who are you? What's your background? Why should we trust you?

As for the โ€œperfect candidate?โ€โ€ฆ simply doesn't exist. Same as the perfect job.

Invariably, hiring is a compromise on both sides of the interview table.

And even if perfect candidates were realโ€ฆ how would you know? We've never spoken. You don't know our culture, our product roadmap, our strategic priorities, or what we're actually looking for.

Opening with such an outlandish and demonstrably shaky claim does little to instil credibility or build trust.

โ€œHaving visited your site, we noticed your world-beating innovative approach to enhancing customer experience.โ€™โ€

"We implement sophisticated AI-powered chatbots that take your client interactions to the next level, boosting engagement and building hermetic relationships.โ€

"We also do AI automation to elevate your operational efficiency.โ€

So, in short, you have absolutely no idea what we do. Or how we do it.

Sorry, but itโ€™s a no from us.

But hey next time we need a โ€œhermetic relationshipโ€ weโ€™ll give you a call.
