According to the World Health Organisation, one in 10 patients is harmed while receiving healthcare, and much of it is preventable.

Fragmented information, gaps between systems and disconnected records are some of the biggest, and most overlooked, drivers of that risk.

This World Patient Safety Day, we're bringing together clinical safety and digital health experts to talk about what it takes to close those gaps.

All our guests have experience both on the frontline of care and with the digital tools that improve clinical safety. From them, you'll learn:

📢 What 'safe by design' really means
📢 What fragmented care actually looks like on the ground, and what's genuinely within a practice's control to fix
📢 Where clinics most commonly lose the thread on a patient's journey and how to check whether it's happening in your own practice

Get to know our expert guests better below and join us this Thursday, 17th September at 12pm to to hear their take.

We've been shortlisted for Technology Support Provider of the Year at the Laing Buisson Awards 🏆

A smoother patient journey starts with what's happening behind the scenes.

Healthcare brings together an enormous range of systems, tools and processes, all working towards the same goal of delivering great care.

At Semble, we're focused on bringing those components together so clinicians spend less time navigating disconnected systems and more time moving care forward, while keeping patient safety and the clinician-patient connection at the core of everything we build.

We're proud to see that approach recognised alongside other great organisations shaping the future of healthcare.

Medical secretaries have always been the operational backbone of private practice.

And as AI takes on the repetitive admin, the role is shifting toward what really matters: coordinating care, keeping patients informed and catching what would otherwise fall through the cracks.

We spoke with Annabel Veysey, Founder & Managing Director at Medical Practice Management Ltd, and Operations Manager Gillie Atkins about what the modern medical secretary should look like in a practice that's embracing AI.

As Annabel puts it: "The judgement AI must never replace is the judgement of AI itself."

Technology doesn't replace great people, it makes their expertise even more valuable. Learn more about the modern medical secretary 👉 https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0y8wBk0

CQC inspections shouldn't feel like a mystery.

A lot of the stress around inspection day comes from not knowing what to expect. How will day unfold? And what exactly are inspectors looking for?

Here's how you should reframe it: inspections aren't designed to catch you out. They exist to check your service is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, the same five standards you should already be working towards every day.

When you're doing that work consistently, an inspection becomes less of a test and more of a chance to show it.

We've just added a new series of short videos to our CQC toolkit, featuring our CQC experts (including the knowledgeable Dr Jonathan Andrews 👇).

Patient safety is only as strong as the connections across the care pathway.

And when care is spread across clinicians, organisations and systems, keeping patients safe depends on all of those pieces working together.

That’s the conversation we’re bringing to our next Semble Insights webinar, and we’ve got a brilliant group of people around the table to tackle it.

🎙️ Dr Keith Grimes: former GP and founder of leading clinical safety and governance consultancy for digital health and AI, Curistica

🎙️ Dr Danny Glover: clinician and co-founder of Orb, working to connect fragmented medical data across NHS and private care

🎙️ Angela Ounnas-O'Neill: registered nurse and Semble’s Clinical Safety Officer, bringing 20 years of frontline healthcare experience

This Patient Safety Day, they’ll explore what it takes to build safer, more connected patient pathways, from the gaps in information that create risk to the role technology can play in closing them.

Can one person be both the Registered Manager and Nominated Individual for CQC registration?

In our Semble Insights webinar on CQC registration, Gabi Ashton, CQC expert at Let's Make Lemonade, explains that if you’re a sole trader, lead clinician or starting out as a limited company where it’s just you in the business, you can apply to take on both roles.

But there’s an important caveat.

CQC will want to understand how you’ll avoid working in isolation. That means being able to show how you’ll access clinical peer support and approach those critical or 'curious' conversations when you need them.

So while one person can hold both roles, the key is demonstrating that you have the right governance and professional networks around you.

“Continuity is not just a buzzword for us, it's what we do every single, every single day.”

In women’s health, care can be extremely complex. Patients may need support from GPs, psychotherapists, nutritionists and other specialists, often over a longer period of time.

For the team at 2Me, continuity means making sure every part of that journey connects, from booking and tailored questionnaires to consultations, follow-ups and shared patient information.

Semble helps keep that information moving between the people involved, so clinicians can spend less time piecing together the admin and more time doing what they were trained to do.

Got time to get stuck into a long read this Friday afternoon?

Healthcare already has established frameworks for determining responsibility when traditional medical devices fail, but AI introduces a new layer of complexity.

If an AI tool generates an incorrect recommendation that influences a clinical decision, where does accountability sit? With the clinician? The provider? The AI company itself?

Our conversations with healthcare leaders over the summer have shown this question of accountability is dominating the narrative, and until there’s clearer answers around liability, trust will remain one of the biggest barriers to widespread AI adoption.

Recent Semble research shows that mental health support is no longer seen as something people only expect in moments of crisis.

Our survey of 1,000 people across the UK shows:

🧠 38% now expect proactive mental health check-ins from providers
🧠 56% of under 30s say mental health support is the workplace healthcare benefit they value most
🧠 47% say it would influence whether they join or stay with an employer

Together, these findings show growing demand for mental health support that is earlier, more accessible and better integrated into everyday care.

And that expectation now extends beyond clinical settings. As mental health becomes a bigger part of how people assess the quality of care, it's also shaping what they look for from employers and workplace health benefits.

But meeting that demand means rethinking how services are designed. As Dr Daniel Masud, Consultant Psychiatrist, notes: “The challenge now is that services are still largely designed around crisis rather than prevention and that’s what needs to adapt.”
