Cool Tech Solutions’ very own Alexia Manoiu was in Sölden on Sunday, cheering on Freddy Carrick-Smith and soaking up the atmosphere of the first Men’s Giant Slalom (GS) race of the season! 🏔️

What a day that must have been! 🤩

At Cool Tech Solutions, we truly admire skiing, a sport that combines precision, performance, technology and determination. Values we appreciate both on and off the slopes!

✈️ Throwback Thursday: From little aviation enthusiast to eLearning developer!

Almost 14 years ago, Alexia made one of her first close-up encounters with a real aircraft engine. Back then, the aviation world was something to explore with wide-eyed curiosity.

Today, she’s working alongside her colleagues at Cool Tech Solutions, helping develop eLearning modules for Flight Crew including onr of our latest modules: Low Visibility Operations (LVO).

From looking at planes to helping flight crews learn about the procedures and operational considerations that support safe flying in low visibility.

A lovely reminder that you never quite know where your first aviation moment might lead!

From CAT I through CAT III, the course explores the principles, procedures and operational considerations that Flight Crew need to understand when visibility becomes a critical factor in flight operations.

📸 World Photography Day | Four moments from above

Some photographs simply capture a beautiful view.

Others capture a moment, a place, or something you might never notice from the ground.

To celebrate World Photography Day, we’re sharing four photographs taken by Bogdan Manoiu during his recent flying in Rieti, Italy.

☁️ Flying in the clouds
A completely different perspective of the world surrounded by clouds and immersed in the flight.

🌤️ The classic Rieti convergence line. Convergences are Rieti's trademark, they allow gliders to fly great distances with tremendous speeds without having to stop and climb (some call them highways in the sky).

🏛️ Villa Potenziani
An extraordinary piece of Rieti's landscape and history, seen from a perspective very few people get to experience.

A beautiful reminder that even the smallest details can look completely different from the sky.

🔹 Myths vs Reality Tuesday

❌ Myth:
“Good engineering doesn’t need software.”

✅ Reality:
Software doesn’t replace engineering judgement, it gives engineers better information to use it.

Engineers still make the decisions.

But why spend hours:
copying data between spreadsheets
repeating calculations
searching through technical information
comparing dozens of options manually
…when software can do the repetitive work in seconds?

The real value isn't the calculation.
It's what the engineer can do with the result.
More time to question assumptions.
More time to optimise.
More time to find the best solution.

💡 Good software doesn't replace engineering expertise. It gives it more power.

🌤️ Flight Powered by Nature – Challenge Complete... and Beyond! 🎉

At Cool Tech Solutions Ltd, we're incredibly proud of our Lead Developer, Bogdan Manoiu, who has successfully completed and exceeded his Flight Powered by Nature challenge.

For the final flight, Bogdan chose Rieti, a location that held a special place in the heart of the late Jon Gatfield, whom Bogdan had the privilege of meeting and flying alongside. Jon famously said: "When God finished building the world in seven days, on the eighth day He built Rieti for the glider pilots."

Bogdan's verdict after the flight in Rieti: "EPIC!" and the numbers certainly agree:
✈️ 431 km
⚡ 126 km/h average speed
🌍 Powered entirely by nature

With this flight, Bogdan didn't just complete the 1,000 km challenge, he finished on an incredible 1,313 km.

This campaign has always been about more than just flying a glider. It has been about raising awareness and funds for ASHRAE UK Chapter research into building decarbonisation while demonstrating what can be achieved by working with nature.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported, donated, shared and encouraged Bogdan throughout this journey.
