That tiny dot above your “i”?

If it’s the exact same width as the stem, it probably feels too small.

👀 The fix: make the dot slightly wider than the vertical stroke.

This is called optical correction. Our eyes don’t perceive shapes mathematically, so type designers adjust details like this to make letters feel balanced.

Great typography isn’t about perfect math — it’s about optical balance ✍️

The Google logo hides subtle adjustments in stroke thickness and spacing that make the wordmark feel smooth, balanced, and effortless to read.

These tiny details are what give typography rhythm and harmony.

Over the years I've drawn dozens of ampersands, never realizing this one little symbol would shape my work and my life so much.

Now it's the heart of my brand. It's the name of my membership for lettering artists and designers, Big Ampersand™. And it captures what my whole business is about: connecting people and bringing them together.

The ampersand was never just an "and" to me. It's a symbol of together.

Which one is your favorite from all of these? 👇

Most designers line up their crossbars at the same height and call it consistency. It's actually the thing throwing your letters off. ✏️

But vision? That’s rare.
Vision is how you see possibilities others don’t.
It’s how you connect ideas in ways no one else can.
It’s the difference between doing work and creating work that matters.

Focus less on being “good.”
Focus more on seeing differently.

Your vision is your superpower.

When Adobe invited me to create a print for their Creative Collective,
it started with a blank page—and one question:

What word tells a story about the future?

After refining and exploring different directions,
Futuremaker emerged.

From there, every line, color, and detail
was built to support that idea.

One of the biggest lettering mistakes?

Making every stroke mathematically identical.

Because letters aren’t just geometry — they’re optical.

In this reel, I’ll show you how small adjustments in stroke weight can make your “A” feel balanced, natural, and professional.

first rebrand in nearly a decade, and the type work is quietly brilliant. 🔥

Every stroke is a different weight so they look consistent. Every letter gap is uneven so the spacing looks even. Good typography isn't equal measurements, it's correcting what the eye actually sees.
