A look back at High-End 2025 — one of those listening experiences that stays with you.
Some demonstrations at a high-end audio show are impressive. Others leave a lasting impression. The presentation by Luxman and YG Acoustic at High-End 2025 was certainly one of them. The debut of Luxman’s Centennial Series marked a special moment, bringing together decades of Japanese audio heritage with YG Acoustic’s uncompromising approach to loudspeaker design. The result was a system of remarkable precision, scale and musicality — delivering one of the most compelling sonic experiences of the show. At the heart of the power infrastructure were two Stromtank S-2500 Quantum MKII units, supporting the system with meticulously controlled power. It was a powerful demonstration of what can happen when every element of a high-end system is carefully considered — from source to amplification, from loudspeaker to power. High-End 2025 may be behind us, but this particular experience is one we’re still happy to look back on.

Why Buy a Power Tank? Part 1: When the Refrigerator Is Listening

We tend to think of household electricity as a one-way system: power comes from the wall socket and runs our appliances. For a high-end hi-fi system, however, the mains supply is far from neutral. Household devices consume electricity, but they can also feed electrical interference back into the grid.
Refrigerators, washing machines, dryers and even hairdryers use motors, compressors or heating elements. When these components switch on and off, they can generate voltage spikes, high-frequency interference and distortions in the mains waveform. Such disturbances travel through the home’s electrical system and can reach the outlets supplying sensitive audio equipment.
The sonic effects are often subtle: reduced clarity, less convincing microdynamics and a less precise soundstage. Music may sound less natural, even though the underlying cause is difficult to identify.
Power conditioners and filters can reduce some of this interference, but their effectiveness is ultimately limited as long as the sources of disturbance remain connected to the same mains supply.
A different approach is to isolate the hi-fi system from the household grid altogether. Why do i need a Stromtank?
Modern households are more wirelessly connected than ever before. Wi-Fi routers, DECT phones, smartphones, tablets, and smart home systems are constantly active – and they all not only access the power grid but also influence it. Switching power supplies, high-frequency oscillators, and constant data communication generate a wide spectrum of high-frequency "junk" that is distributed via the power grid. This interference is often far beyond what conventional measuring devices can detect, but it can significantly affect sensitive audio equipment. Digital and analog circuits are equally sensitive to such interference. Sonically, this often manifests as harshness: high frequencies sound harsher, voices lose their naturalness, and prolonged listening becomes more tiring. Power conditioners are a proven method for counteracting these effects – they filter RF interference and stabilize the power supply. However, even here, the following applies: as long as the source of the interference is active on the same network, some residual interference remains. The most effective approach is complete isolation. A power storage system designed exclusively for audiophile applications and supplying the system autonomously is completely unaffected by Wi-Fi, smartphones, and smart home technology.
