This iconic 2018 National Geographic cover is a masterclass in concept-driven design.
At first glance, you see an iceberg. Look closer and you'll discover it's actually a plastic bag. One simple visual transforms into a powerful statement about the hidden impact of plastic pollution on our oceans and our planet.
What I love most about this piece is its simplicity. There are no unnecessary effects or visual clutter. Just one brilliant idea executed perfectly. It grabs your attention, makes you think, and leaves a lasting impression. That's exactly what great graphic design should do.
Created by Mexican artist Jorge Gamboa, this remains one of my favourite examples of how thoughtful design can communicate a complex message in an instant.
A definite 10 out of 10.
