Higher education doesn’t need more AI tools. It needs better AI experiences.

In a new article for Campus Technology, Dr. Cristi Ford, Chief Learning Officer at D2L, explores what it will take to move AI in higher education from experimentation to meaningful, sustainable practice.

The opportunity isn’t simply to give educators access to more technology. It’s to make AI useful within the environments they already trust, while keeping educator judgment at the centre.

From reducing friction in everyday teaching to supporting assessment, feedback and student engagement, Cristi shares why the next phase of AI adoption will depend on thoughtful integration, clear guidance and meaningful professional learning.

For most colleges and universities, access to AI tools is no longer the barrier. The real work is building the clarity, confidence, and shared responsibility to use them well.

Last week in Medellín, we hosted our D2L AI Roundtable | From Promise to Practice: AI in Higher Education in Colombia.

It was a morning of meaningful exchange among higher education leaders on how to move from AI experimentation toward purposeful digital transformation. During an especially difficult week for the city and our community, we are deeply grateful to those who were able to join us and take part in this space for conversation and learning.

A special thank you to Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and Universidad EAFIT, who shared their firsthand experiences and perspectives on how their institutions are navigating this journey.

We were also joined by Dr. Luis Medina, who once again brought a timely and relevant perspective on the evolution of AI and its impact on education.

We remain committed to creating spaces that bring people together, foster the exchange of experiences, and help transform education.

AI is changing the way entry-level work gets done. But are organizations replacing the learning and development that once came with those roles?

A recent article from Customer Experience Magazine explores the growing entry-level hiring squeeze and highlights research from D2L showing that 74% of U.S. HR leaders do not have an employee development program in place to replace the on-the-job training being lost to automation.

The implications go beyond hiring. Without intentional development opportunities, organizations risk weakening their future talent and leadership pipelines.

As work continues to evolve, organizations need to think carefully about how they build skills, support early-career employees and prepare the next generation of leaders.

Recently in Whistler, we had the pleasure of bringing members of British Columbia’s K–12 education community together for our annual Evening with D2L.

It was a great opportunity to connect with school district leaders, share experiences, catch up with familiar faces and continue conversations around teaching and learning across BC.

We were especially grateful to see such a strong turnout this year, with the event reaching full capacity and welcoming our highest-ever BCSSA member attendance.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a meaningful one! 💚
