Made use of a day when many boats stayed at the wharf and visited a few TrapTrack users.

It was a good chance to answer questions, help with updates, and hear feedback directly from the people using the app every day.

We're always up for a chat and enjoy connecting with the people using TrapTrack on the water. A lot of our improvements come from conversations at the wharf.

Without looking at the coordinates, a few of you should recognize this harbor! đź‘€

🌡 Temperature Beacon Testers

• Show temperature directly on the map
• Show where the beacon was last detected in the water
• Store battery levels so we can learn real-world lifespan
- 2 years? 5 years? We’ll find out

Keep an eye on beacon locations. If they consistently match the actual trap positions, this will tell us a lot about the future haul/set beacon system

We still have a waiting list and are slowly working through it.

If you already have TrapTrack and haven’t talked to us recently, send us a message and let us know how things are going! Most new features and fixes come directly from fishermen using the app every day.

Some requests take longer than others depending on complexity, but many changes are completed within just a few days.

FEATURES STILL REQUESTED:
• No-map / BIG button layout
• Area labels + catch sorting by area
• Grouping gear in the performance tab
• Keypad add-on (testing)
• Progress bar linked to selected trip instead of only the latest trip
• Reorganize Logs > Labels tab

🦞 TrapTrack Update

We are slowly starting tablet sales again 👍

The last while we’ve been focused mostly on fixing problems, improving stability, and supporting current users before taking on more sales.

For current users:
We are currently testing the new Soak Time feature with a few fishermen already using it on the water. So far it’s working well.

We now have 15 users with around 45 Temperature beacons spread over the Maritimes.
Without any interaction, they automatically log the temperature into the trip log as soon as the trap comes onboard.

This testing is going well 👍

The next update will include:
* Soak Time, catch-only mode, gear history
(message us if you want to be included in testing)
* Better data storage handling
* Backup features (MicroSD, Google Drive, Email)
* Minor color/readability adjustments
(red boxes now have white text — we appreciated the feedback 👍)

We strongly recommend updating once this version becomes available.

Important:
Soak Time, Temperature beacons and a few upcoming advanced features will become part of a higher tier version next year.

Current subscription: $100/year
Higher tier version next year: around $250/year

We want to be upfront about that early so there are no surprises later.

Free > Very basic (simple logger)
$100 > What everyone currently has (standard version)
$250 > Adds Soak Time and Temperature beacon support (in testing)
$1000 > Trap beacons to perform all haul/set actions (in development)

Big thanks to everyone helping test and report problems.

Main issues we’ve dealt with so far:
* Deleting bunches (3.0.24 November version)
* Some tablets not charging after fully dying
(leave them on the charger for a while)
* Deleting bunches while editing labels/tags (3.0.36)
* Deleting trips (3.0.36 & 3.1.10)
caused by a file read/write race condition

Most asked questions:

“How do I edit a catch if I entered it wrong?” - Example: 180 instead of 18

Logs → Catches → Scroll → Pencil icon ✏️

“How do I update?”

Settings → Check for updates → Login with any Google account/email → Press Update (if available)

05/07/2026

ATTENTION!! ⚠️

We’ve now confirmed this issue has also affected 1 user running version 3.0.36.
Right now this has only been confirmed on 1 tablet out of 100+ active users.

It appears to only happen while inside the menu for:
• Labeling bunches
• Adding tag numbers

Avoid using these sections until updated!!

Trips and trip logs are SAFE.
The issue can affect bunch data only.

The good news:
Version 3.1.10 includes major changes in this area and is a lot safer/more stable. Most users are already updating to this version.

To check your version:
• Open the TrapTrack app
• Help → the version is shown at the top
• Version 3.1.00 or higher is good

To update:
• Connect the tablet to WiFi
• Open the TrapTrack app
• Settings → Check for Updates
• Install the update

(You might have to login to a Google account first if that has never been done before)

We know posts like this aren’t always fun to make, but we’d rather be upfront about issues.

Send us a message or give us a call if you need help with the update 👍

If you want to get the latest TrapTrack updates 📲

You’ll need to be signed into a Google account on the Play Store.

It’s not required to use the app — everything will keep working as is
But it’s recommended so you can get updates and fixes going forward.

We put together a quick video showing how to add a Google account 👇
(takes a couple minutes)

Latest update (3.1.10) includes:
-Background GPS (track your trip with the screen off)
-New TD location calculation (more accurate)
-Better battery life
-Better app scaling
-Phone number in help menu
-Temperature🌡 / trap beacon ready (not fully functional yet)

If you need help or have questions, feel free to reach out 👍

Note:
Testing with temperature🌡 tags has started.
If you’re on the list to test them and we haven’t reached out yet, let us know

04/29/2026

We’ve identified an issue with a small batch of tablets running version 3.0.24.

This only affects tablets set up between December 15 – December 24, and right now it looks like just a few users.

If your tablet is on version 3.0.36 or higher, you’re all good 👍
(You can check this at the top of the Help menu)

Fix (takes a couple minutes):
• Sign in to a Google account
• Open the Play Store
• Check for updates
• Update the app → Done

Note:
If your tablet has been off for a while, double check your date & time. If it’s off, WiFi and sign-in can act up.

I’ll be in Tignish this afternoon if anyone wants help getting it sorted 👍
(I’ll have some hats with me!)

04/27/2026

Two things we’ve run into so far 👇

1. Date & time out of sync
If a tablet hasn’t been used in a while, the date & time can be off.

2. Slow GPS lock at startup
Especially when turning it on indoors or after sitting for a while.

Why this happens:
TrapTrack runs fully offline – no data, no cloud

Quick fix before your setting day:
• Check your date & time
• Turn the tablet on early
• Take the tablet for a drive (app open)
• Start your trip when you leave home for the harbor

Once it’s locked in, you’re good 👍
