There is a version of this story everyone has heard by now. Someone used a chatbot, it made up a case, the court found out.

This one is different. The tool was built for Canadian immigration law, for exactly this kind of work, and it still invented two cases and the legal test.

The Court was clear that AI is a perfectly valid tool for counsel to use. What it will not accept is output nobody checked, from a use nobody declared.

Which leaves one question worth asking about any legal AI. When it gives you a citation, can you open the source and see for yourself?
