“Advancing Canadian Wildfire Technology Through Onboard Processing and On-the-Ground Collaboration”
Proud to have contributed to a new research paper focused on advancing Canadian wildfire technology through the integration of artificial intelligence, satellite systems, and Indigenous collaboration.
The research examines how machine learning can be deployed directly onboard satellites to detect wildfire activity sooner—reducing the time between observation, detection, and actionable intelligence.
By combining space-based technology, operational wildfire expertise, and meaningful Indigenous community engagement, this work aims to strengthen early-warning capabilities and support better decisions for communities, emergency managers, and wildfire agencies.
Eagle Flight Network’s contribution focused on helping ensure that technology development remains grounded in real community needs, Indigenous Traditional Knowledge, stewardship, data sovereignty, and Indigenous participation throughout the innovation process.
As wildfire seasons continue to intensify across Canada and around the world, the most effective solutions will be those that connect advanced technologies in space with the knowledge, infrastructure, and people on the ground.
