The P30 billion reportedly lost to fraud, corruption and maladministration, and the P10 million lost through SIM swap fraud, should worry every Motswana.

This is no longer just about crime. It is about whether our law enforcement, prosecutors, courts and institutions are ready for the technical complexity of modern fraud, cybercrime and digital evidence.

Watch/listen as our CEO Mr. Douglas Sekgweng unpacks what this means for our country.

In case you missed it this morning, our CEO, Mr. Douglas Sekgweng, was hosted by Roberta on Duma FM, where he educated and warned the public about the growing threat of Romance Scams.

Romance scams can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or education level. Scammers use emotional manipulation, fake love, and false promises to gain trust before asking for money or sensitive information.

Watch the interview to learn how these scams work, the warning signs to look out for, and how to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Stay alert. Verify before you trust. Report suspicious activity.

A fake Botswana flag on a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz is more than a maritime issue. It is a fraud and national trust issue.

The same trick used there is the same trick we now see in cyber attacks and scams: fake identity, false legitimacy, hidden controllers, and exploitation of trust.

Today, criminals use:
fake websites,
spoofed emails,
cloned social media pages,
impersonated executives,
and fraudulent payment requests.

Different platform. Same deception.

This is why cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue. It is a fraud, intelligence, and national security issue.

Botswana must strengthen verification, intelligence sharing, and early warning systems both offline and online.

At ScamDetect, this is exactly our mission:
Detect risk early. Share intelligence. Stop fraud before damage.

🚨🔔CYBER ALERT: Multiple organizations targeted by suspicious document-sharing emails

This morning, different companies reported receiving suspicious emails disguised as urgent document-sharing requests, including messages labeled “Download Document” and “Access Request.”

These emails are particularly dangerous because they appear to come from trusted contacts and known organizations. In our view, this is consistent with a phishing campaign and may in some cases involve compromised corporate email accounts being used to spread malicious links.

This is how many serious incidents begin:
A trusted sender.
A convincing document request.
One click.
Stolen credentials.
Mailbox compromise.
Further spread.

Immediate advice:
• Do not click suspicious document links
• Do not enter credentials on pages opened from email links
• Verify document requests independently
• Review mailbox activity, inbox rules, and sign-in logs
• Escalate quickly where any user has already interacted with the email

Awareness matters, but rapid response matters more.

At ScamDetect, we believe early intelligence sharing helps stop damage before it spreads.

Detect risk early. Share intelligence. Stop fraud before damage.
