Telstra Outage — Wednesday 8 July
Heads up, everyone — Telstra is having a major national outage this morning affecting mobile calls and data right across Australia, including here on the Mid North Coast. If your mobile's dropping out, showing no signal, or your data's not working — you're not alone, and there's nothing wrong with your phone. It's also hitting brands that run on the Telstra network like Belong, Aldi Mobile, Superloop and Tangerine, so you might be affected even if you don't think of yourself as a Telstra customer.
A few things worth trying:
📱 Restart your phone
🔄 Retry any calls or connections that drop out
📶 Jump on Wi-Fi if your home internet/NBN is still working — fixed-line broadband is largely unaffected Telstra has confirmed the issue and says they're on it, but there's no fix time yet.
Reports do seem to be easing off, which is a good sign.
Triple Zero (000):
Australian mobiles are required to fall back to another network for emergency calls, so 000 should still connect even without Telstra signal. If you can, keep a phone on a different network handy just in case. We'll keep an eye on it and update as we hear more. Hang in there 👍 — The team at Sav Tech Media

Hi all,

We're letting you know about a Telstra network outage currently affecting services across Australia this morning (Wednesday 8 July).

What's happening:
- Telstra has confirmed an issue affecting mobile calls and data connections.
- Problems were first reported around 4am AEST, with several thousand users affected nationally.
- Impact is mainly on mobile signal and mobile data, though some broadband services are also reported as affected.
- Reports are coming from multiple states, including NSW.

What this means for you:
- You may experience dropped calls, no mobile signal, or slow/unavailable mobile data.
- Fixed-line internet (NBN) may still be working normally, so where possible use Wi-Fi calling, email, or web-based tools to stay in contact.
- Telstra advises that retrying a call or connection may work, as the issue is intermittent.

Important — emergency calls:
There have been unconfirmed user reports of difficulty reaching 000 on Telstra mobiles during the outage. As a precaution, please keep a mobile phone on a different network (e.g. Optus or Vodafone) available for emergency calls if you have one. In an emergency, a 000 call will attempt to connect via any available network regardless of your provider.

What we're doing:
This is a Telstra network issue and the fix is in Telstra's hands. There is no estimated restoration time yet. We're monitoring the situation and will update you as soon as we know more.

If you're experiencing problems that you don't think are related to this outage, please contact us as usual and we'll take a look.

Kind regards,
Peter Saville

🔐 Think cybercriminals only target big business? Think again.
One of the biggest myths I hear is:
"We're too small for anyone to be interested in us."
In reality, it's often the small and medium-sized businesses that are being targeted the most. Cybercriminals know many smaller businesses don't have a dedicated IT security team, making them an easier target.
Here on the Mid North Coast, we see it all the time:
⚠️ Fake invoices
⚠️ Phishing emails
⚠️ Hijacked email accounts
⚠️ Stolen passwords and business credentials
I remember hearing those exact words from the wife of a business owner in Port Macquarie. Unfortunately, they decided not to proceed with our cybersecurity recommendations. Some time later, I heard from a reliable source that the business had fallen victim to scammers after a phishing email was opened—an attack that Guardz would almost certainly have detected and blocked before it reached the inbox.
That's exactly why Sav Tech Media now offers Guardz.
Guardz is an all-in-one cybersecurity platform designed specifically for small and medium businesses. Rather than piecing together multiple security products, everything is managed through one intelligent platform.
✅ Email and phishing protection that stops malicious emails before they reach your staff.
✅ Advanced device protection against malware and ransomware, powered by SentinelOne.
✅ Continuous monitoring of your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace environment to detect account compromises early.
✅ Dark Web monitoring to alert you if your business credentials have been exposed.
✅ Security awareness training to help your staff recognise and avoid cyber threats.
✅ 24/7 monitoring by a real Security Operations Centre (SOC), not just automated software.
The best part? It's affordable, charged on a per-user basis, and fully managed by Saville Tech Media. You receive enterprise-grade cybersecurity without the cost of employing your own IT security department.
Cybercrime isn't slowing down—and hoping it won't happen to your business isn't a strategy.
If you'd like to know how vulnerable your business is, let's have a conversation. We'll explain your risks in plain English and show you practical ways to protect your business.

With the SSD Memory prices rising free email services have had introduce storage limites and Yahoo is the first to do so. Yahoo has recently reduced its free email storage limit to 20GB, introducing new paid plans for users who need more space.
Key Changes to Yahoo Mail Storage
New Free Storage Limit: Yahoo Mail has slashed its free storage cap from 1TB to 20GB. This change affects all users, particularly those who have relied on the previous generous limit for years

Paid Upgrade Options: To accommodate users needing more storage, Yahoo has introduced new subscription plans:
100GB Plan: Available for $1.99 per month.
1TB Plan: Available for $9.99 per month.
Yahoo Mail Plus: Offers 200GB of storage, an ad-free experience, and additional features

Impact on Users: Once users reach the 20GB limit, they will be unable to send or receive emails until they either delete old messages or upgrade their account. Access to the mailbox will remain, allowing users time to manage their storage

Storage Management Tools: Yahoo is rolling out new tools to help users manage their inboxes more effectively, including real-time storage tracking, a usage dashboard, and sorting options for large emails

Emptying the Trash: Users must remember that deleted emails go to the Trash folder and still count against their storage limit until the Trash is emptied. This has caused confusion among users who thought they had freed up space by deleting emails

These changes have sparked concerns among long-time users, prompting many to review their storage usage and consider upgrading to avoid disruptions in their email service.

⚡ Well… today’s office view comes with an unexpected “lights out” feature.

Due to an Essential Energy planned outage affecting our area today, the STM office is currently without power, so I’ll be working remotely in full “laptop lifestyle” mode for the day. 💻☕📶

The good news is our cloud phone systems and remote support platforms are still fully operational, so business continues as normal from a service perspective. You can still contact us via phone, email, remote support, or the helpdesk as usual.

Sometimes regional IT means swapping the server room for a mobile hotspot and a coffee shop table. 😅
