The small business ownerβs 24-hour reply dilemma. π±
You reply quickly.
Then quickly again.
And again.
Before long, people get used to it.
π© Email comes in β you reply.
π¬ Message arrives β you respond.
β Question pops up β youβre on it.
Until one dayβ¦ you genuinely canβt reply within 24 hours.
Not because you donβt care.
Not because youβve forgotten.
Not because their job isnβt important.
Youβre simply already at capacity.
And suddenly, from the other side:
βItβs been two daysβ¦ why havenβt they replied?β π¬
I think this is one of the hardest parts of being a small business owner.
We work so hard to provide great service that sometimes being available instantly becomes the expectation.
But thereβs a difference between exceptional customer service and making yourself available 24/7.
Because behind the business is a person.
Someone answering emails, quoting, solving problems, managing staff, talking to suppliers, checking artwork, dealing with production, doing admin, chasing payments, marketingβ¦ and trying to have a life somewhere in between. π
Iβm still learning that setting boundaries doesnβt mean providing less care.
It means creating a business where I can continue providing that care without burning myself out.
Fast service is great.
Good service is important.
But sustainable service matters too. β€οΈ
