Have you been wondering where Tudgee’s been hiding every Wednesday morning? 🤷‍♂️

For the last few month’s I’ve been helping Childers National Seniors Social Branch, facilitating Digital Skills Workshops every week.

Over the 3 months we’ve gone through topics including:

✅ Scam Awareness and Security
✅ Setting up and using MyGov
✅ Google Maps
✅ Researching Family History Online
✅ Photography and Photo Storage
✅ Tips and Tricks for Searching on Google
✅ Making and taking Video Calls
The list goes on!

In addition to supporting a valuable local initiative, this gave the shy but crazy Tudgee Bear an opportunity to start practising public speaking again - something I’ve struggled with since having my first panic attack (some years ago now).

In the short time, I feel blessed to have met some amazing Childers locals.

Together we helped each other! 🙌❤️

I was more than happy to help share some of the digital skills I’ve acquired over the years, and they provided a supportive environment and care for me to start rebuilding my confidence.

Crew, it's officially time!... I'm locking in my first "New-FY, New Me" goal! 🔒

As a creative, anytime I need to stock back up on sketch pads, I usually end up buying the typical Mon Marte pads from the nearest "cheap shop".

Eventually, after travelling everywhere with me in my back-pack, it becomes a crumpled up mess of paper. 🫩

All that time and effort sketching out works of art (or even not-so-works-of-art 😂) from every weird corner and crevice of my crazy mind, and what am I left with as a memento for all my passion?.... the dirty, crumpled mess you find at the end of kid's school day.

Okay, I may be a complete child at heart (So what 🤷‍♂️). But this time I wanted something that I could fill up over a longer period of time and end up with something special I can put on the shelf and look back on.

Not everything I sketch out on one sheet is worth a place in my portfolio, but that doesn't make it any less important - it's still a small piece of me and my journey that I should be able to appreciate.

Enter my new Field Book! This week I invested in this beautiful hand-made, 100% Genuine Leather Field Book, made by Jaaneman Art by Jane Marin.

Jane is another fellow creative in the area. Not only is she a talented artist, but these Journals, Art and Field Books, are just beautiful to hold.

My plan coming into the new Financial Year, is to be adding a new illustration into my Field Book every day, not matter where I am, and by the end of another year doing what I love, have a full book I can look back on.

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the ultimate F.U. to A.I. Give me something real and meaningful any day of the weak.

Coral Auto Detailing reached out to me with a solid goal in mind. Soon after buying the business from its previous owner they found that the business was operating well, but it was missing something - community!

Layni, the absolute legend behind the wheel at Coral Auto Detailing (soon to be Ghostline) realised quickly that the existing brand wasn't bringing the tribe together - the Car Club Members, Car Enthusiasts, and Motor Minds whose wheels mean more than just A2B or a daily commute.

Layni understood something that many in business will go their whole lives without ever knowing... the best brands bring people together! Amen! 🙏

The Brand needed to bring the crew back together! It needed an icon and a symbol that the community could rally behind. 🫡

The Ghostline Komainu (Japanese Lion Dog) symbolises the brand's protection of its crew and the vehicles they consider part of the family.

Traditionally placed at the entrance of temples to protect those who attend to worship, Ghostline's Komainu is our Gearhead Guardian!!

The Japanese characters pictured alongside the Gearhead Guardian in some of the Logo Lock-Ups reads "family" and further symbolises Ghostline's Motor Mantra to Protect the Crew!

Primary School: I want to be a Comedian
High School: I want to go to NIDA and be an Actor
First Job: I just want to make money
Second Job: Banks are where the money is - literally

Somewhere along the line that little, arty kid with a knack for making people laugh stopped getting a say in my life.

20 years on I realise that little kid had it right the whole time.

There’s no respawning to the nearest checkpoint, no second chances, no restart button. When the time is right for you, don’t walk to what is right, f***ing run!!

Your worries, your fears, your second guessing, they are nothing, when you could be exactly where you want to be.

Flipping the script to tell a new story today! 📓

Full disclosure… I f*cked up! 🤪… and proud of it - because it taught me a valuable lesson that I will carry with me every day.

I spent the morning with the lovely Hayley from Aroha Dreaming Cookies as we flip the script and turn a typical Logo Project into something more meaningful and collaborative! 🎨🙌

When Hayley and I first caught up to look at a Logo for her business, I did what I would normally do. I tried to fit everything neatly into my normal Project box. But I completely overlooked a key aspect.

All Hayley’s project really needed to get us back on track was to build a collaborative process more suited to the outcome.

What was the lesson here?… Sure, of course you need to have a structured Project to meet expectations, and of course a process is needed for a smooth journey. But, in every design project there should be at least two sets of hands and hearts. The designer and the client.

In typical Tudgee style I tried to be all things in all areas to all people, when I should have held out a hand and walked alongside my partner in this Project! ✊✊

We’ve got this one back on track with a beautiful sketch, I’ll be taking back to the Studio to turn into Hayley’s digital story of care and culture baked into every cookie.

Okay, I know I'm always going on and on about quality and value all the time!! But can we take a quick minute to go there again? 🫣 🫣

When I first opened my Studio, I went out and bought all the critical tools I'd need to make design magic happen.

One of those purchases was a "proper" Oxford Mathematics Instruments set - a necessary bit of kit for a Brand Designer that goes the extra mile for his customers.

Well, let me tell you.... The "proper" new kit was all plastic, no pencil or pacer I bought seemed to fit in the Compass, and if it did, it fell out when being used with the slightest amount of pressure (even with it tightened).

The rest of the kit - plastic, plastic, more plastic. It was the most expensive kit on the shelves, and yet, I only used it when I absolutely had to.

Enough was bl**dy enough!! I reached out to my mate, Nick, from Barn Door Vintage and said "Nick, you always seem to be able to find quality, vintage, old-school gear. Can you please see if you can find me an old school mathematics instrument set made of metal. I need the real deal, baby!

Sure enough, Nick found it! An old school set with metal instruments. The compass had an actual screw to tighten your pencil - not a plastic nubben. Hallelujah! I'm going to start calling Nick "The Finder".

Then there's the price. How much for something vintage of quality? The same as the cheap plastic set that never got used.

There's a lesson in this.... price does not equal value. What I valued wasn't "something new". What I valued was quality tools of the trade.

You just can't convince me. Things aren't what they used to be. ‼️

This is the side of business that people tend not to talk about anymore. 🤐

Never before has there been another time in my life where I've felt this much like I was being pummelled, broken down, torn apart..... and rebuilt into more of a man than I've ever been.

In business:
❌ Things don't always go according to plan
❌ You're not always motivated or inspired
❌ People don't always treat you with respect
❌ You're not always confident in your decisions
❌ You're not always in the black

And to be completely honest.... There will be more occasions where you feel like you're not enough, than there will be occasions where you felt genuinely proud or accomplished.

But I think that's the point. Everyone says we learn from our mistakes. Well, when you say it like that.. "yeah of course".

But what that actually feels like is knowing you have more in the tank and what it looks like is digging even deeper, freely attending more courses to build your knowledge, giving late nights, early mornings, and almost all of what you have left to give.

I don't love every day in business.

But occasionally you will have a moment. One solitary moment where you realise you're a better person today than you were yesterday. You took the beating, you took all the pain, you held on, because you knew you were meant for more.

To paraphrase a fekin awesome quote I heard one day on this exact platform (source unknown), "When God wants to make a man powerful, he doesn't crown him, he breaks him first."

In the second year of business full time, I've come to the belief that businesses that will do well are businesses that seek to do good always.

Help as many people as you can, give everything, give all you have, do as much good as you possibly can, and you will become unstoppable.

We are called to be warriors. Pick up your sword, it's time for battle! 💪♥️
