LD Systems can answer that for you: Handling low frequencies in live audio is challenging. Room modes, architectural resonances, and unwanted spill are challenges. One solution is the cardioid subwoofer setup.
Subwoofers emit low-frequency energy in all directions. Cardioid subs use front and rear-firing woofers with spacing, delay, and polarity adjustments. Result? Rear energy cancellation and enhanced front energy!
