Recent data and market shifts reveal a different outlook across major African to***co-producing nations
A Steep Drop in Early Registrations Reports from the To***co Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) indicate a significant warning sign as fewer farmers are signing up for the 2026/2027 season.
More than 6 000 farmers have registered to grow to***co next season, with more than 3 500 coming from the communal sector.
According to the latest update from the To***co Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), 6 142 farmers have registered for the upcoming season, representing a 41 percent decline from the same period last year.By July 31, 2025, 10 399 growers had registered for the 2025/26 season.
The Cause: This slowdown is primarily driven by a collapse in prices and global oversupply during the 2026 marketing season, leaving many communal and small-scale farmers financially strained.The Outlook: While the Zimbabwe To***co Growers Association (ZTGA) remains hopeful that registrations might still pick up before deadlines, the initial numbers show widespread grower disappointment
