As an Agro Economist, It was great to witness the official opening of the Great Leaf To***co Processing (Zambia) plant in Kabwe, officiated by the Minister of Agriculture. This investment marks a new chapter for Central Province, promising increased economic opportunities for the local community.
Management emphasized that the new processing facility has already created jobs and is expected to generate even more employment, strengthen local value chains, and offer farmers a more reliable market within the province.
The establishment of this plant will greatly benefit to***co growers, who now have access to processing services closer to their farms reducing transportation costs and improving income stability. This development comes at a crucial time, as Zambia’s to***co sector continues to expand. The country currently produces tens of millions of kilograms of to***co annually, with output projected to grow from around 44 million kg in 2024 to approximately 80 million kg in 2025. The sector supports thousands of small scale farmers and makes a significant contribution to agricultural export earnings.
The launch of Great Leaf To***co Processing in Kabwe is a major step toward rural industrialisation, increased export capacity, and improved livelihoods for our farming communities. Fellow technocrats, let us continue working together to drive agricultural development and unlock the full potential of Zambia’s to***co industry.
