MALAMBO EAST CONSTITUENCY ASPIRING CANDIDATE FAITH LUNGU PLEDGES TO LOBBY MORE SCHOOLS CONSTRUCTION TO REDUCE DISTANCES CHILDREN WALK TO ACCESS EDUCATION.

By Staff Reporter
Mambwe, Eastern Province – 12th May 2026.

Aspiring Member of Parliament for *Malambo East Constituency*, *Faith Lungu Bury*, has pledged to lobby for the construction of more schools in *Malambo East Constituency* to reduce the long distances children currently walk to access education.

Speaking during a community meeting in *Chapusa village, Mambwe District*, on Saturday, Ms. Lungu said many children in rural *Malambo East Constituency* are forced to trek several kilometres daily to reach the nearest school, a situation that affects attendance and performance.

“Our children wake up very early and walk long distances just to get to class. Some get tired, some drop out. We cannot develop like this,”_ Ms. Lungu told residents. _“If elected, I will make it my priority to lobby government and partners to bring schools closer to our communities in *Malambo East Constituency*.”_

During the same meeting, Ms. Lungu also announced that she will drill a *borehole for Chapusa village any day from now* to address the urgent water crisis affecting families in *Malambo East Constituency*.

_“The water challenge here is real and has continued to affect the daily lives of our people. Next week, we start drilling,”_ she said.

Ms. Lungu outlined a broader development plan for *Malambo East Constituency*, promising to push for more *health facilities* in underserved areas and *better roads* to connect farmers in *Malambo East Constituency* to markets in Mambwe and Chipata.

She stressed that access to clean and safe water, quality education, and healthcare are the foundation for development in *Malambo East Constituency*.

_“When children have a school nearby, they learn better. When our mothers have water near their homes, they have time to farm and do business. When we have clinics close by, we save lives,”_ she said.

*People are happy with Faith Lungu because she has already started helping people in different ways in Malambo East Constituency.* Village headman *Mr. Jackson Phiri* welcomed the pledges, saying the distance to school has been a major concern for parents in Chapusa. _“Some of our children walk over 5 kilometres one way. A school near the village will change everything for *Malambo East Constituency*,”_ he said.

Ms. Lungu maintained that her agenda for *Malambo East Constituency* is based on direct consultations with communities and will focus on practical solutions to daily challenges.

The general elections are expected later this year following the dissolution of Parliament today, *Tuesday, 12th May 2026.

“We Cannot Oppose What We See”: Chadiza MP Leads Mass Defection to UPND, Cites Roads, Schools, Cash for Work.

CHADIZA, EASTERN PROVINCE – 10th May 2026.

Chadiza Member of Parliament *Hon. Jonathan Daka* has formally announced that he and Patriotic Front structures from across the district have joined the *United Party for National Development (UPND)*.

Addressing supporters and party officials this yesterday, Hon. Daka said: _“We have officially taken a step forward by joining hands with the United Party for National Development - UPND. To our supporters, we are so grateful, and we shall never let you down.”_

He reaffirmed his _“commitment to a leadership anchored on service, accountability, transparency, and sustainable development”_ and pledged to _“continue to consult widely and engage all sectors and stakeholders to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every community in our Constituency, as we now officially become sons and daughters of President Hakainde Hichilema and his able party.”_

Hon. Daka thanked *Kampini Ward Councillor Peniyasi Banda* and all *PF ward structures* for joining him. He also extended appreciation to *Kapachi Ward aspiring candidate Teddy Zulu* and party members, as well as *PF district structures and constituency structures* in Chadiza District.

_“I have brought all PF structures from all the 20 wards from Chadiza District to come and join the UPND party together with me, and we will make sure that the UPND party grows in Chadiza District,”_ he stated.

Citing the reason for the move, the MP said: _“People of Chadiza, we have made this decision to join the UPND party because of the good leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, which he has shown to us. We have seen him working on the Chipata-Chadiza road, bridges, schools, clinics, water, and many other things.”_

He added: _“President Hakainde Hichilema has been there for the people during droughts. People were given Cash for Work. We cannot oppose things that we are able to see. Since independence, Chadiza District was neglected, but now I can tell you that we have opened up Chadiza.”_

Hon. Daka said the decision was made _“out of full conscience, and after ultimate consultation and conviction that our step is not only ours, but for a better Chadiza.”_

As Member of Parliament, he expressed happiness that Chadiza District will now have two constituencies, _“which will bring development to the people of Chadiza.”_

_“We will continue supporting development. We will not do politics without knowledge. No. We will fight for development for Chadiza,”_ he said.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Daka thanked *UPND party officials from the wards, constituency, and district* for welcoming them, urging continued cooperation _“as we are going to the elections.”_ He also thanked *Provincial UPND party officials* for witnessing the meeting and encouraged them to _“continue working hard to make sure Eastern Province becomes the best for the party.”_

“God bless Chadiza District all the time. Thank you for your support, the good people of Chadiza,”_ he concluded.

HEADLINE: BIG MACHINE STRIKES AGAIN: Levison Ziwa Convinces 4,000+ PF Members, 4 Councillors to Join UPND in Kasenengwa*

CHIPARAMBA, KASENENGWA – 9th May 2026.

Kasenengwa’s political landscape shifted dramatically this week after aspiring parliamentary candidate *Hon. Levison Ziwa*, popularly known as *“Big Machine”*, led a mass defection of *over 4,000 members* of the opposition *Patriotic Front (PF)* to the ruling *United Party for National Development (UPND)*.

The event took place on *8th May 2026* at *Chiparamba Sub-Centre* during a mobilisation and development meeting convened by Ziwa.

In what UPND officials described as the largest single defection in Eastern Province this year, the *entire PF ward structures* from *Mphunza, Kwenje, Makungwa, Mkowe and Changazi wards* crossed to the ruling party together with *four sitting PF councillors*.

The councillors are *Makungwa Ward Councillor Alexander Miti*, *Kwenje Ward Councillor Acklas Banda*, *Mphunza Ward Councillor Ackim Phiri*, and one other.

Ziwa, who joined the UPND in 2022 with over 200 officials, told a cheering crowd: _“Today I have not come alone. I have come with over 4,000 men and women who believe it is time for Kasenengwa to move forward. The time for politics of division is over.”_

He told UPND leadership the party is now positioned to claim *90% of the vote* in Kasenengwa on *13th August 2026*, citing strong local demand for development.

_“The people of Kasenengwa want roads, clinics, schools, and jobs. The UPND government under President Hakainde Hichilema is delivering, and we want to be part of that development agenda,”_ Ziwa said.

The defectors were officially received by *UPND Eastern Province Vice Chairman for Administration Mr. Alex Phiri*, *Provincial Chairlady Madam Hellen Phiri*, and *Provincial Youth Vice Chairman for Administration Cephas Mandauka*, alongside several other provincial officials.

Mr. Phiri welcomed the new members and urged party structures to work together to make the defectors feel part of the UPND family.

Several defectors credited *President Hakainde Hichilema’s* free education policy, Cash for Work programme, and expanded Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects for their decision to join the ruling party.

_“We are tired of supporting leaders who have no vision for Kasenengwa,”_ one defector said.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ziwa said he will continue convincing opposition members to join UPND because _“politics is about numbers, unity and development.”_

Political observers say the shift could redefine the 2026 parliamentary race in Kasenengwa, a constituency long regarded as a PF stronghold. The seat is currently held by *Tonse Alliance MP Philimon Twasa*.

Analysts added that losing four ward-level leaders and five complete ward structures is a major blow to PF’s grassroots machinery ahead of the general elections.

UPND has tasked its new members with mobilising more residents ahead of the *General Elections scheduled for Thursday, 13th August 2026*.

Efforts to get a comment from PF officials in Eastern Province were unsuccessful by press time.
