President Jacob Zuma resigned as leader of South Africa on Wednesday evening during a televised address to the nation.

"I resign as president of the republic with immediate effect," he said, "even though I disagree with the decision of the leadership of my organisation ... I have always been a disciplined member of the organisation."

He added: "As I leave, I will continue to serve the people of South Africa as well as the ANC."

In his speech, Zuma emphasised that "no leader should seek an easy way out simply because they could not face life at the end of their term without the perks that come with their political office".

"I fear no motion of no confidence or impeachment. They are the lawful mechanisms for the people of this beautiful country to remove their president.

"I've served the people of South Africa to the best of my ability. I am forever grateful that they trusted me with their highest office in the land, but when I accepted the deployment I understood and undertook to subject myself to the supreme law of the land, the Constitution," he said.

The announcement came despite his initial refusal to resign, even in the face of a no-confidence vote supported by his own party.

On Wednesday morning, the ANC parliamentary caucus met and agreed to support the Economic Freedom Fighters' motion for a vote of no confidence after Zuma refused to resign – despite being recalled by the ANC's national executive committee on Tuesday.

Shortly after the ANC caucus meeting, a defiant Zuma gave a live television interview to the SABC where he defended himself and rejected the attempt by the ANC’s top leadership to remove him from his position.

Zuma said he disagreed with the notion that he had to be removed purely because the ANC had a new president.

However, at 10pm the president seemed to accept his fate.

Zuma’s resignation coincided with the arrest of several people linked to the Hawks' state-capture investigation. Earlier on Wednesday, the elite squad pounced on properties belonging to the Guptas‚ who have been fingered along with Zuma in allegations of state capture.

I pray to see the day when black parents rescue their children from depression. In black families, once a family member drifts from their stable mental state, and starts acting weirdly, people label them bewitched or a drug addict. A few months ago, my brother was not himself, but he still smiled and pretended to be okay, but he was creepy. That calm, soft-spoken brother I knew was gone; his eyes were full of anger and his mouth uttered words which I didn’t know. I engaged my parents on the matter, and dad said he would speak to him “man-to-man” – that was before my aunt suggested he was bewitched. But I knew even if my dad spoke to him he would never open up because they don’t have that kind of relationship. They didn’t have a relationship where you could freely go to your dad and seek his advice without fear. My father never created that kind of bond. To them my brother was bewitched because he could not clean himself like he used to, he wasn’t friendly any longer, he didn’t do the chores at home, he had red eyes, had developed a loud angry voice and started drinking alcohol. At the age of 22, he chose to make alcohol fashionable in his life, he chose to be everything he wasn’t and he wasn’t bewitched, that’s what I believed at the time, my aunt and dad were adamant that he needed prayers or God had to save him because he had demons and was bewitched. I sat there and observed. Whenever my brother went to any room at home, someone had to follow him just in case he stole money from people’s wallets. Not just people, but his own family. That hurt me I chose to be soft to him. In me I created a room for him to use to rest and freely introduce what was on his chest without being scared of judgements from others. He started opening up to me. Failing several modules dismally at university, feeling lonely, his girlfriend experiencing miscarriage, (read more:

(CNN)Protesters gathered outside the Libyan Embassy in central Paris following an exclusive CNN investigation into migrant auctions in Libya.

"We have to mobilize. We can't let this kind of thing happen," one protester told France 24 at the rally Saturday. "Did we really need to see such shocking pictures before taking a stand? I don't think so."
After obtaining footage of an auction, CNN's Nima Elbagir and her crew went to Libya in October to investigate further.
"How can it be that in the 21st century, we're selling human beings like merchandise?" one woman at the Paris protest said. "I cannot get my head around that!"

Libyan authorities this week launched a formal investigation into the auctions, overseen by the government's Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency.
"Priorities of the investigation are not only to convict those responsible for these inhumane acts, but also to identify the location of those who have been sold in order to bring them to safety and return them to their countries of origin," Anes Alazabi, an official with the agency, told CNN.

Former Miss Plus Sixe Queen Mmangaka Tumagole has come up with an initiative that intends to empower and address all issues affecting plus size women.

The initiative dubbed Sdudla Ses’fit, is meant to empower women who suffer bullying, body shunning and shamming. Mmangaka told the media that she decided to start a plus size project because she is a plus size, and has experienced a lot for having a big body perceived to be imperfect.

She highlighted that she kept postponing the whole project until a teenage girl, who took the initiative to seek advice from her through social media, almost took her life. “To my understanding, she was being bullied by her peers at school and they called her all sorts of disgusting names to shame her,” she said. Tumagole said she figured out that the sooner her project came off the ground the better.

The plus size queen said that she met three beautifully crafted plus size women who were beyond willing to be the first members of her project. The ladies are Wame Mmolawa, Jasmine Maphanga and Sikhululekile Mhlanga. “They have been gems throughout this project because as much as we do not have monetary sponsors, they stuck by my side for the sake of the mandate of this group and I appreciate them for that,” she said to Mmegi newspaper.

The former queen who is also a radio personality in Northern Cape said that she hopes that the movement will reach greater heights in the near future. “Recently I have been in talks with Empire Model Agency to partner with them to bring plus size modeling to life in Botswana and use the platform of their shows to inform Batswana,” she said. She said that they are also building a documentary and would love to feature as many plus size enthusiast as possible so that when they host their own motivational talks, it would be easier with a showpiece of where it all began.

She highlighted that she is receiving support from locals and across borders. “I have been getting assistance from Miss Plus Size Nigeria reigning Queen, Shakara Plenty who has been very helpful with elevating Sdudla Ses’fit and Miss Plus Size Universe Pearl Williams.”

Daily Sun — “You killed him, now eat him or bury him,” relatives of the dead man screamed at cops.

SOMEONE IS LYING about what happened behind the closed doors of a house in the Vaal.

What is known is that a man is dead, his body draped over the bonnet of a police van by enraged family members.

YOU KILLED HIM, NOW EAT HIM OR BURY HIM, THEY TOLD THE COPS.

Daily Sun understands cops got a tip off about a house where drugs were being sold in Vanderbijlpark, in the Vaal, south of Joburg and decided to raid the house.

On arrival, the cops allegedly stormed the house and woke everyone up, both in the house and in the rooms outside.

They were seen entering the house and later when they came out, a dead man was found inside, believed to have been suffocated with a plastic bag over his head.

A tenant who lives in a back room in the yard said they were also searched and questioned.

“Cops didn’t find drugs or anything illegal on any of us,” said a resident.

According to another resident who claims he was an eyewitness, the cops were with the man in the house.

The man allegedly refused to admit that he sold drugs, so cops threatened him.

The witness said the four cops covered his head with plastic and he suffocated to death. Cops, however, tell a different story.

They claim the man was already dead when they went into the house.

A man living in the yard said he heard dogs barking and woke up.

“When I got outside I found many cops in the yard. I was put against the wall and searched.

“When the cops heard me speaking Sotho they let me to go.”

He said when he went into the house he found his neighbour being beaten by the cops.

“They had plastic over his head. I asked them to stop. They told me to leave and said the man would tell the truth.” The witness said he stood outside for a minute and when the cops left the house, he went back inside. “I found him dead,” he claimed.

The dead man’s family say they have no doubt the cops killed him by suffocating him during their interrogation.

After the dead man’s family was called, they erupted in an anguished rage and took the body out to the yard. There they placed it on the bonnet of the cop van.

“You killed him, now eat him or bury him,” relatives of the dead man screamed at cops.

In a video captured by witnesses, the dead man’s relatives and friends can be seen venting their anger at cops who look nervous and try to cover each other.

Family members and friends at the scene were very emotional and wept next to the man’s co**se as it lay on top of the cop van.

Gauteng police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said the man was found dead by their cops.

“At this state we will have to wait for the outcome of the post mortem to determine the cause of death.

“There were no visible injuries on the deceased,” he said.

He said they had heard the allegations that the man was killed.

“We registered a murder docket after allegations that he was killed were brought to our attention.”

Makhubele said attempted murder and assault cases were opened after officers on the scene were attacked. “Six of our officers were injured.”

No suspects have been arrested yet.

The entertainer shared his plans for the future on his Metro FM breakfast show with DJ Fresh this morning where he confirmed that he and his partner could walk down the aisle next year.

"Next year! I will become Mr something," he said.

"I still want to have another child. The decision comes out of me being selfless because my partner doesn't have a child and he wants a child," Somizi revealed.

Somizi has opened up about a certain time in his life when his ex kept him a secret for 5 years on Mapaseka Mokwele's show on KAYA FM.

"I became a secret for five and a half years, up until I asked him, 'so when are you going to [introduce] me. I've never been to your place, I've never met your parents? But my family knows you," he said on the show.

In commemorating the birth centenary of Oliver Reginald Tambo, SA Mint, subsidiary of South African Reserve Bank (SARB), is producing a new R5 circulation coin.

The new R5 entered into circulation on 1 October 2017, the Reserve Bank said. SA Mint also released a collection of commemorative coins including a 24 carat gold coin.

The coins depict the times in the life of OR Tambo, which SA Mint said are epochal events in the history of South Africa.

Tambo, along with Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, were the founding members of the ANC Youth League in 1943, becoming its first National Secretary and a member of the National Executive in 1948.

In 1955, Tambo became secretary general of the ANC, and in 1967, Tambo became acting president of the political party, following the death of Chief Albert Lutuli.

He returned to South Africa in 1990 after over 30 years in exile, and was elected national chairperson of the ANC in July of the same year. He died aged 75 due to complications from a stroke on 24 April 1993.
