OUT OF SIGHT = LESS TEMPTATION

When you're driving, what you leave in plain sight can make your vehicle an easy target.

📱 Phone on the passenger seat?
💻 Laptop on the back seat?
👜 Handbag on the floor?
🎒 Shopping bags or backpacks visible?

Even if you're only stopping for a few minutes, don't leave valuables where they can be seen through the windows.

A thief doesn't know whether that bag contains something valuable — they only see an opportunity.

👉 Rather keep valuables out of sight before you start driving. If possible, place them in the boot before reaching your destination.

And remember: an empty-looking laptop bag, shopping bag or backpack can be enough to attract attention.

👀 Before you leave your vehicle, take a quick look around.

If you can see it from outside, so can they.

YOUR KEYS SHOULD NOT TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU LIVE

It may seem convenient to have your name, address or other identifying information attached to your house keys—but if those keys are lost or stolen, that information could potentially lead someone straight to your home.

A simple precaution:

✅ Remove your name from your keys.
✅ Don't include your address or other identifying details.
✅ Keep key tags generic and non-identifying.
✅ If your keys are lost together with anything that identifies your home, consider replacing the affected locks.

Your keys should open your door — not reveal where that door is.

Strand Buurtwag/Neighbourhood Watch management is aware of allegations circulating on social media regarding an alleged assault incident that happened on Friday evening the 14th of August in Beach Road.

We would like to remind the public that the version of events that was shared on social media does not necessarily reflect the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

SNW management received information from eyewitnesses present at the incident and their observations and accounts of what transpired forms part of the information available to us, also information regarding the circumstances that led up to incident.

SNW will not release details or disclose individual witness accounts at this stage, as doing so could compromise the investigation and the rights and the integrity of witnesses and neighbourhood watch members involved.

We urge the public not to draw conclusions based solely on incomplete information or social media commentary.

Every incident has two sides. Sometimes, there is considerably more to the story than initially meets the eye.

We ask the community to allow the appropriate authorities to establish the facts and to respect the privacy and rights of all parties involved.

As of today, all SNW patrollers will be instructed to not respond to calls from the public to assist with or intervene in possible domestic disputes or domestic disturbances of any kind.
