The ONT (Optical Network Terminal) is the device that converts the fibre optic signal coming into your home into a format your equipment can use. Think of it as the translator between the outside network and your house.

The router is what takes that connection and spreads it around your home as Wi-Fi, deciding which device gets what, managing your network, and handling your Wi-Fi password.

Why does this matter? Because when something's wrong, knowing which box is the problem saves you a world of troubleshooting. Wi-Fi dropping in one room but the connection itself is fine? Router or Wi-Fi issue. No connection at all, even on ethernet? Check the ONT first.
