National Youth ICT Council to form part of the Annual DSI Science Forum

The National Youth ICT Council will be taking part in this year’s annual Science Forum South Africa hosted by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), in partnership with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) International Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday, 11 December 2020 at 10h00 am, virtually.

The National CEO of the Youth ICT Council, Mr Aphiwe Adams, will be representing the Council on the panel with a core focus on "Enabling technology governance to disrupt inequality", tackling challenges emanating from the historical wide digital divide to interrogating emerging technology governance challenges related to the global imperative to promote economic recovery and reconstruction responding to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a premise on opportunities for the South African Affiliate Centre to contribute in 2021 to developing enabling technology governance frameworks which will support equitable and sustainable economic recovery within South African, regional African and international contexts

The Youth ICT Council seeks to be the voice of those who will inevitably inherit the South African economy and is committed to ensuring that they inherit a viable economy for a workable future. Furthermore, SFSA aims to provide a stage for science, technology and innovation discourse, an apex priority of the Youth ICT Council towards development, aligned to the South African Affiliate of the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s vision of developing appropriate technology governance frameworks, through a public-private partnership of co-creation, to ensure the 4IR is effectively harnessed to address South Africa’s triple challenge of unemployment, inequality and poverty.
