Most people know climate change is warming our planet. Fewer realize that the ocean has absorbed over 90% of the excess heat caused by greenhouse gas emissions since the 1970s.

Recently, we had the opportunity to host a carbon footprint workshop with EQ Bank, led by their passionate Green Team ERG—and what a great session.

From the start, it was clear this wasn’t just a “check-the-box” moment. The team came ready with 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 in understanding how their everyday decisions connect to broader climate impact.

We explored:
→ What a carbon footprint really means (beyond the buzzword)
→ How individual and organizational choices add up
→ Why “what gets measured gets changed” is more relevant than ever

What stood out most was the engagement—employees leaning in, sharing perspectives, and challenging assumptions. That’s where the real shift begins.

We recently had the opportunity to deliver a carbon footprint workshop for Modon as part of their 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, an initiative designed to translate sustainability priorities into actionable behaviors, conversations, and operational decisions across their portfolio.

One of the highlights? 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀 were able to discover their own carbon footprint through the 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱, powered by clever carbon.

Carbon literacy isn’t about perfection, it’s about 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, and 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 where we have opportunities to reduce impact both personally and professionally. The conversations during the session were thoughtful, engaging, and optimistic, exactly the kind of momentum we need more of.

We hit the streets of with a deceptively simple question: 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀? 👀

Great companies don’t just talk about sustainability—they create moments for people to engage, learn, and act.

This Earth Day, we had the chance to host a carbon footprint workshop with the team at GoFundMe—and it was incredible to see how this moment is part of something much bigger.

Across both their San Francisco and San Diego offices, employees showed up for a full lineup of Earth Day activities, all powered by their highly engaged employee resource group, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻. From thoughtful discussions to hands-on initiatives, it’s clear this is a team that’s building a culture of climate awareness from the inside out.

During the session, we explored what a carbon footprint really means, how everyday decisions add up, and why “what gets measured gets changed” is more relevant than ever. The level of curiosity and participation in the room made it such a fun and energizing workshop.

Earth Day may be one day, but the ripple effects of conversations like these can last all year.

🌎 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝘁 Calix 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘆.

I had the chance to kick things off with their Sustainability Affinity Group (led by Maren Yarmaloff, MBA) through an interactive ocean literacy workshop — and we went deep 🌊

Together, we explored:
🌡 How the ocean regulates Earth’s climate (absorbing 90%+ of excess heat)
🏢 How business activities impact the ocean — from emissions to supply chains
💡 How everyday choices connect back to ocean health

Because just like with carbon footprints, the goal isn’t perfection — it’s 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 → 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 → 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

🤝 Community-driven events that bring employees, friends, and family into the action

All rooted in one simple idea:
𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.
