The ocean has always held a special place in my heart. As a scuba diver, I find a kind of peace beneath the surface that is difficult to put into words. It’s a world where the noise of everyday life fades away, and all that remains is the gentle rhythm of the water and the incredible creatures that call it home.

The manta ray has always fascinated me with its graceful movements and almost effortless dance through the ocean. Through this drawing, I wanted to capture a little of that beauty and the sense of freedom I feel when I’m underwater.

Sometimes, the most beautiful moments are found in the quietest places. 🌊

🎨 An Updated Introduction

To all my new followers, welcome! And to those who have been following my creative journey for a while, thank you for being here. 🤍

I’m Monica Henschl, a self-taught artist and graphic designer, and I thought it was time to introduce the person behind the artwork.

My journey with art began at a young age. Apart from studying art in high school, I have no formal professional art training. My work has grown through years of experimenting, learning and simply creating.

I work with graphite, charcoal, soft pastel, acrylic and mixed media, often exploring texture and different techniques.

I find inspiration in nature, animals, the ocean, emotions and personal experiences. For me, art is about more than creating something beautiful, it’s about capturing a feeling, a memory or a story and bringing it to life.

This page is where I’ll share my artwork, works in progress, the stories behind my pieces, and my journey as I continue to grow as an artist.

Some companions leave paw prints that last a lifetime.

Squishy is a tribute to Izzy, a sweet, fluffy soul whose gentle nature, love of snacks, and endearing personality brought joy to everyone around her.

Every pencil stroke was carefully placed to capture not only her likeness but also the warmth and character that made her so deeply loved. My hope is that this portrait preserves those treasured memories and celebrates the special bond shared with a beloved companion.

Grief has a way of changing us. It leaves us feeling fragile, as though the smallest breeze could carry away the pieces of who we once were. Yet within that fragility lies a quiet strength, the courage to keep moving forward, even when our hearts are heavy.

The butterfly became the perfect symbol for this piece. Though delicate in appearance, it represents resilience, transformation, and hope. It reminds us that even after life’s darkest moments, growth is still possible. We may never be the same, but we can learn to carry our loss with grace, finding beauty in the person we become.

Every pencil stroke was a moment of reflection, giving form to emotions that are often difficult to express. Fragile is not only about loss, but also about healing, resilience, and the quiet strength found in embracing life’s transformations.
