And you thought CCTV was just for security.... here are some innovative uses of IP cameras. To improve productivity,
IP cameras have sophisticated edge analytic capabilities which can be used in applications such as loitering detection, people counting and prohibited area trespassing.
These capabilities can then be used in applications specific to manufacturing as follows:
1. Prohibited or no go areas – at the moment staff can access no go areas and remain there until noticed by management or time to go home. For example a quiet area of the factory floor can be used for loitering and avoidance of work. With edge analytics, these areas can be “highlighted” with a digital pen and an “alarm” activated or report produced so that management can automatically be made aware of the fact that staff (and which particular staff) are loitering and or avoiding work.
2. The manufacturing process requires specific “movement”. For example from one side of the machine to another, or from one machine to another. The ability to draw digital lines between machines or across the face of a machine creates the ability to automatically measure the movement across that line and therefore automatically detect low productivity. For example, if the required standard is moving from one side of a machine to another ten times per hour in order to produce the required output and the machine operator only moves across the machine once in an hour, the report produced will highlight the need to view the footage for that particular operator and for that particular hour.
3. The people counting facility can be used to monitor movement between different areas of the factory and could assist in determining the ideal location of the stock and equipment used in the different stages of the manufacturing process. In retail this facility is used very effectively to determine the ideal location of stock for sale.
