2026 didn't kill these trends. We did, by all using them at the same time.

To be fair, none of them started out bad. Beige was calm. Squiggles were fun. Mockups made things look finished. AI made things fast.

They died because they turned into shortcuts. A way to skip the hard bit every brand has to figure out: what's actually true about you, and how do you show it?

Skip that bit and you end up looking like everyone else who skipped it. Suddenly the whole internet looks like a rental apartment.

What lasts is the stuff you chose on purpose. A colour that means something to you. Words that sound like an actual person said them. A website built around how your customers think, not how a template thinks.

That's the part I love doing, and honestly, no prompt or marble table is getting near it.

So, who did I miss? Tell me the trend you're secretly hoping makes the 2027 list.

And if your brand or website is still wearing one of these, I have 3 website slots left for 2026. DM me "website" and let's make it look like you.

Remember when this was the height of web design?

WordArt. Comic Sans. A visitor counter. Everyone had the same site, and at the time it felt cutting-edge.

Generic AI websites are heading the same way. Same prompts, same layouts, same copy - and in a few months they will look just as dated.

This post stopped your scroll because nobody else's feed looks like it. Your website should do the same thing for your business (minus the Comic Sans, promise).

At Paper Planery I design and build websites from scratch around your brand. Every page is shaped to fit how your business works, easy for your customers to find their way around, and unlike anything your competitors have.

The newwebsite live for Information Dynamics just went live, and I wrote about it.

It's not a case study. More of an honest account of what it actually took to make gradients feel intentional in 2026 without making something that looks like it was designed in 2018.

The short version: strip everything back to black and white, then let the colour live underneath it. Animated, frosted, breathing. The long version is on my site

I've spent the last few months asking myself a simple question:

If anyone can generate something beautiful, what makes something truly memorable?

The answer isn't better software.

It isn't more effects.
It isn't even more creativity.
It's thought.
It's judgement.
It's intention.

That question has become the foundation for a new chapter of Paper Planery.

I can't wait to share it with you.

Most of these millennial ways I am happy to let go of... but you can pry hilarious, op point TV Show GIFs from my cold, dead, millennial hands.

No animals were harmed in the making of this carousel...

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

AI was discussed extensively.
However, it was not used for the design.
