If this gives you a laugh, good.
If it makes you question my sanity, send wine.
If it convinces you to think twice before having kids, you’re welcome.

And if it makes you rethink your branding, fantastic.

These are my two toddlers. Sharing one car seat for five minutes because the back seat was full of things I had to transport.

Five minutes. That’s all it took before we had what can only be described as… a spitting contest.

Yes, it’s not glamorous.

And yes, maybe we need some psychological help.

But luckily that’s a me problem, not a you problem.

Now, let’s talk brands.

This? This is what real looks like. Messy. Unfiltered. Human.

I’m not saying brands should start posting their toddlers mid-brawl.
But I am saying it’s time to start showing up a little more honestly.

We live in a world where AI can polish, automate and perfect almost anything.

But the brands that stand out are the ones that stay human.
The ones that make you feel something real.

I might work hard to keep brands looking good, consistent, credible, and beautiful. But I root even harder for keeping them real.

And yes, my kids spitting at each other made me laugh.
It also made me wish for a coffee IV drip. Or maybe a full bottle of wine.

But that’s life. And that’s real.

I have just completed a course in Brand Management at Red & Yellow Creative School of Business.

And yes, this is a brag post. 😊

It took real determination to complete this course while working full time and raising two toddlers.

It is a privilege to grow. It takes courage to step out of your comfort zone and commit to learning something new, even when life feels full.

Now I can continue implementing meaningful and impactful changes to the brands I work with. 🖤

You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass.

You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas.

You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the time.

You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people.

But always stand out and always be grateful.
But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful.

I'm just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us."

Everywhere I look — there’s a Checkers toy.

In my car. In my kids’ school bags. In a holiday resort pool (yes, a Checkers floaty).

Their delivery bikes are on the roads. Their minis are in lunchboxes. People are collecting, trading, even throwing Checkers-themed birthday parties.

So what are you doing right, Checkers?

From a brand perspective, here’s what I see:
✔ Ubiquity: They’ve made themselves part of daily life without forcing it
✔ Emotional connection: They’ve tapped into fun, family and nostalgia
✔ Consistency: Colours, tone and branding are recognisable everywhere
✔ Community relevance: From delivery to playtime, they’re showing up where we actually are

That’s not just clever marketing, that’s branding that lives with us.

Studying typography in London changed how I see design. After each class, I’d walk the streets, inspired by signage, shopfronts and the emotion behind every letterform.

It taught me the power of rhythm, spacing and structure—how small details can completely shift how something is read and felt.

I grew up on a game farm in Limpopo, where life was simple and full of wonder.

Game drives, campfire evenings by the dam and playful encounters with chameleons that I proudly called my pets. I cherished the natural world, knowing every detail of the bush.

Then came the challenge of adapting to an English high school in Pretoria – amid the struggles of fitting in, I found solace in drama, art and design.

It was there that I discovered my true calling, using creativity to tell stories and forge meaningful connections.

Now, as I work in the realm of branding, I bring that same spirit of curiosity and authenticity to every project.

Branding is more than just a logo—it’s about creating stories and connecting with people on a deeper level. It’s a journey that brings me so much joy!

I started as a graphic designer with an honours degree in Visual Communication Design, and over time, I gravitated more toward branding. Now, as I study Brand Management, I’m diving deeper into crafting powerful brand identities that truly resonate.

It’s been an exciting journey, and I’m thrilled to continue transforming brands!
