Bluedog Bytes #5: What’s blocking your Wi-Fi? 📶

Did you know that the layout of your home — and what’s between you and your router — can have a big impact on your Wi-Fi signal?

Thick walls, concrete, large furniture and even where your router is positioned can weaken the signal as it travels through your home. That’s why you might have great Wi-Fi in one room but struggle with slow speeds or poor coverage in another.

💡 Bluedog tip: Keep your router in an open, central position where possible, rather than hiding it behind furniture, inside a cupboard or in a far corner of the house.

For larger homes or properties with tricky layouts, a mesh Wi-Fi solution can also help provide more consistent coverage — and that’s something the Bluedog team can assist you with. 💙

Myth or Fact: Full Wi-Fi bars always mean fast internet?

❌ MYTH!

Those full Wi-Fi bars might look reassuring, but they only tell you how strong the connection is between your device and your router — they don’t tell you how fast your actual internet connection is.

You can have full Wi-Fi bars and still experience slow speeds, buffering or pages that just won’t load. 😩

💡 Bluedog tip: If your Wi-Fi signal looks strong but your internet feels slow, try running a speed test or checking whether other devices in your home are experiencing the same problem.

Bluedog Bytes: Full bars… but no internet? 📶🤔

Seeing full Wi-Fi bars on your phone doesn’t always mean your internet connection is working.

Those bars show the strength of the connection between your device and your router — not necessarily the connection from your router to the internet.

So, if you’ve got full bars but nothing is loading, the problem could be with the internet connection itself rather than your Wi-Fi signal.

💡 Quick tip: If this happens, try restarting your router and checking whether other devices in your home are also offline. If the problem continues, get in touch with the Bluedog team and we’ll help you figure out what’s going on.

Bluedog Byte #3: Location, location, location!

Where your router lives in your home can have a big impact on your Wi-Fi coverage.

If your router is tucked away in a corner of the house, your signal has much further to travel — often through walls, furniture and other obstacles.

📶 For better coverage, try placing your router in a central, open and slightly elevated position. This gives the Wi-Fi signal a better chance of reaching more rooms and devices throughout your home.

Sometimes, improving your connection can be as simple as finding your router a better home!
