A book can sit on a shelf for a century. A digital file can become unreadable in a decade. πŸ“š

That's the challenge we're tackling at the LIASA 2026 Annual Conference, where this year's theme is "Knowledge, Power and Justice: the transformative role of libraries". After all, knowledge only empowers people if it survives long enough to reach them.

At our stand, we're showing how digitised collections can be protected from day one, with every file identified and fingerprinted so its integrity can be checked for decades to come. We've loved chatting with librarians, archivists and information professionals from all over South Africa. πŸ™Œ

Heading to Sandton Convention Centre this week? Pop in and say hello to Thomas Schmidt and Niklas Zimmer at πŸ“ Stand 36, Hall 1. We'd love to hear about your collections!

FCTEC was proud to attend the 2nd Annual National Records Management Conference at UNISA's Muckleneuk Campus in Pretoria from 26–27 August 2026 two days buzzing with insight, innovation and connection, bringing together archivists, records managers and technologists from across South Africa.

Some real highlights for our team: a shout-out for our InoTec SCAMAX scanners, and the chance to sponsor an award for Ms Marveline Ngwenya, who was crowned South Africa's first Records Manager of the Year! As part of her prize, she'll be joining us at the FCTEC Digitisation Conference in 2027 - we can't wait to host her.

Events like these remind us why this work matters. Meeting the people who care for our nation's records every day helps us build tools that make their jobs easier and their archives stronger.

Congratulations, Ms Ngwenya, well deserved! πŸŽ‰

Another unforgettable African Evening, this time in Busan! 🌍✨

Following the wonderful African evenings we hosted in Rotterdam and Astana, FCTEC was proud to bring African delegates together once again during IFLA WLIC 2026.

On Wednesday, 12 August, we welcomed over 100 colleagues, partners and friends from across Africa's library and archive community to The Westin Josun Busan for an evening of connection, celebration, and shared purpose. πŸ₯‚

Evenings like these have become a tradition we're deeply proud of. Wherever IFLA takes us next, bringing African delegates together for a night of community remains one of the highlights of our year, a chance to celebrate the people and institutions driving library and archive transformation across the continent.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Busan, and to all who have made these evenings a recurring highlight since Rotterdam and Astana. Here's to the next one!🌍

πŸ—„οΈ FCTEC was proud to attend the 2026 Annual Conference of the South African Society of Archivists (SASA) as a member of the association!

The programme was steered by Programme Director Ms Winnie Mangotlo, with SASA President Dr Maite Manganye officially opening proceedings. The keynote address was delivered on behalf of the MEC for the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Hon. Jerry Maseko, represented by Dr Lucky Vuma.

The conference received messages of support from the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa, the Library and Information Association of South Africa, UNISA Library & Information Services, the Provincial Archives Advisory Council of Limpopo, the Oral History Association of South Africa, and the SASA Limpopo Chapter.

It's always a pleasure for our team to reconnect with, and learn alongside, fellow professionals in the archives and records sector! πŸ“š

πŸ“Š Friday Fact: South Africa's public sector generates billions of paper documents annually and many are never properly digitised or preserved.

This creates real risks: lost records, compliance failures, and poor service delivery.

Digitisation solves this. And it's more affordable than most organisations think. Ask FCTEC how.
