Last Friday, Chillisofters came together for a fun-filled and collaborative afternoon celebrating South African heritage through food, storytelling and song.
Divided into teams, our Chillisofters were challenged to create a sandwich that paid tribute to the diverse flavours and cultures of South Africa. Each team was given a budget to work with, putting their creativity, teamwork and culinary skills to the test.
From kotas and gatsbys to amagwinya and a creative spin on bunny chow, every team brought something unique to the table while staying true to the spirit of our heritage.
The afternoon continued with teams sharing stories and cultural experiences, giving everyone an opportunity to learn more about one another and celebrate the richness of our backgrounds.
The presentations were just as impressive as the sandwiches, with teams scoring each other to determine the winning group. Congratulations to Barry and his team, who took the win and walked away with a gift hamper filled with delicious South African treats!
A big thank you to everyone who participated and made the afternoon such a memorable celebration of our shared heritage.

This Women’s Month, the ChilliSistas from Chillisoft were proud to give back by hosting a Women in Tech Empowerment Session at the Durban University of Technology on Friday, 7th August.
Our team had the opportunity to engage with 1st, 2nd and 3rd-year students, sharing their experiences, insights and advice on what it takes to build a successful career in technology.
The session covered: The journey of a female software developer “Nishka Maharaj, Soriya Das, Khanyisile Sihlongyane and Elizabeth Chibvuri”, Debugging the myths and misconceptions about women in IT “Zoleka Dlamini”, Career opportunities in Software Development “Nsikelelo Kumalo”, What employers look for in graduates and Preparing for a successful career in the technology industry “Rizwana Svourakis”.
The session was informative, engaging and, most importantly, fun! It was inspiring to see the students actively participating, asking questions and connecting with women who are already building careers in the industry.
Chillisofters shared their real-world experiences. The challenges, opportunities and lessons they have encountered along the way -, giving students a glimpse into what life in the Software Dev industry can really look like.
Because every good session deserves a little treat, After the presentation, there was a networking session where students enjoyed light snacks and a live beverage station, proudly sponsored by Chillisoft.
A big thank you to Durban University of Technology for welcoming us and to the students for making the session such a memorable experience.
This Women’s Month, we’re not just celebrating women in technology, we’re helping create the next generation of them.

In light of the upcoming Youth Day on 16 June, Chillisoft would like to take a more meaningful approach to commemorating the day. We are giving 5 young Software Developers the opportunity to win free access to Chillisoft’s Udemy short courses.

Two of the key contributors to unemployment in South Africa are limited opportunities and restricted access to learning. We believe that continued upskilling and certifications can provide young developers with a stronger advantage when seeking employment and building valuable industry skills.

This initiative is also aimed at gathering real-time feedback from active job seekers to better understand how software development companies like Chillisoft can make a greater impact in creating opportunities and reducing barriers to youth employment.

How it works:

Submit your responses to the 5 questions below to: [email protected]

1. Approximately how many job applications and interviews have you completed to date?

2. Have you received feedback on unsuccessful applications/interviews? If so, what feedback was provided to you?

3. Why do you think unemployment remains high among young developers despite IT being considered a critical skill in South Africa?

4. Do you believe apprenticeship and learnership programmes positively impact graduates?

5. What can software development companies do better to create opportunities for youth employment in South Africa?

Submissions open: 12 June – 19 June 2026

Five eligible candidates will be selected and awarded access to Chillisoft’s Udemy short courses. Successful candidates will be contacted directly by the Chillisoft Team.

These locally-based stars, make up the core of South Africa’s 26-man squad for the World Cup. This heavy reliance on domestic talent ranks South Africa in the global top five for the highest number of locally-based players selected for the tournament.

LLMs can’t replace core software development skills
Read Chillisoft’s latest press release on IT Web. Our MD (Peter Wiles), shares insights on why core software development skills are not going anywhere.

While AI augmentation is possibly the biggest shift since third-generation programming languages, the skills needed to be effective are still the same, says Peter Wiles, MD at Chillisoft Solution Services.

Chillisoft successfully hosted our annual Values Workshop on Friday, 15/05, at the Coastlands Hotel. The event brought together Chillisofters from across the globe, creating an opportunity for the growing team to connect, engage, and strengthen especially with those working remotely.
This year’s theme, ‘Adapting Sustainably,’ focused on embracing inevitable change and how Chillisoft responds and evolves in a sustainable and intentional way. The team reflected on key highlights, challenges, and successes from the past year, celebrating both growth and resilience.
One of the standout sessions of the day was a lively debate-style discussion on the use of AI in production environments. Two teams explored both the advocacy for greater AI adoption and the cautious approach to its implementation. The discussion proved insightful and contributed meaningfully to the company’s ongoing research and conversations around AI.
Another engaging topic explored the generational differences emerging within today’s workplace. Our Gen Z Chillisofters conducted a survey examining workplace expectations, challenges, goals, and experiences across generations. The findings were presented through a fun and interactive ‘Family Feud’-style game, which sparked great discussion and team participation.
The workshop was intentionally designed to be interactive and collaborative, giving leadership valuable insight from the team while also sharing the company’s direction and goals for the year ahead. Overall, the event was a great success, leaving the team energized and excited for what lies ahead.

Traditionally Chillisofters partake in fun challenges, social get togethers and egg hunts before the Easter holidays. This year, our celebrations looked a little different. On Friday, the Chillisoft team came together to prepare and deliver meals and snacks for the children at The David Clark Children’s Home, a division of Durban Child Welfare.
It was a heartwarming initiative, with Chillisofters generously giving their time, items, and money to contribute to the home’s needs/wish list. The day was a true reflection of what can be achieved when a team comes together with purpose.
Of course, we kept the energy up with some well-deserved boerewors rolls and drinks
We encourage other organizations to take part in initiatives like these. Small acts can make a big difference.
