We recently celebrated the Mashup – Westbury Youth Centre student graduation, a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when commitment meets opportunity.

A heartfelt thank you to Colette Steeneveldt from "Just Connect Empowerment Services NPC' and family, Aunty Bree and Daryl, and all the dedicated facilitators and volunteers who gave their time, energy, and belief to walk this journey with our students. Your contribution continues to shape lives in ways that go far beyond the classroom.

Special appreciation to Picklers Park, Roodepoort for providing a welcoming space that made this celebration possible.

Most importantly, we honour our graduates—young people who, against real odds and real challenges, chose to stay the course, complete what they started, and push through when it would have been easier to quit. Your perseverance is the true achievement of the day. This is what resilience looks like.

At Mashup, we are proud to launch our BackaBuddy campaign: Build Futures Beyond Circumstances.

Every day, we work with young people who have potential, talent, and ambition — but not always access to opportunity. This campaign is about changing that. Through skills development, mentorship, character-building, leadership training, and workplace readiness programmes, we are equipping youth to move beyond limitation and step confidently into the adult world.

In addition to our current initiatives, we are expanding our impact by training baristas, barbers, digital literacy and young entrepreneurs — creating practical, income-generating pathways that lead to dignity, independence, and sustainable livelihoods.

Can you believe that it’s that time of the year again? 🌸🐣

Our annual Mashup Easter Egg Donation Drive is around the corner, and once again, Aunty Bree – our very own Easter Bunny – is getting ready to bring smiles to the children of Westbury.

Last year was a huge success. Because of your kindness and generosity, hundreds of children experienced the joy and excitement of receiving Easter eggs – many of them for the very first time. The laughter, the smiles, and the sense of community reminded us all of what is possible when people come together for a good cause.
This year, we want to make it even bigger.

We are calling on our friends, partners, and community to help us put a smile on a child’s face this Easter. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.

Thank you to the 40 young people who attended this morning’s AI Workshop hosted by Mashup at the Westbury Youth Centre. It was a full and exciting day of learning, where participants explored how to develop websites, design business cards, and unlock new creative and business possibilities using AI.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing the world of work, business, and education. By equipping our youth with these skills, we are ensuring they are not left behind but are empowered to become creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs in the digital age.

A special thank you to the dedicated trainers for bringing this valuable opportunity to Westbury and investing in the future of our young people.

On Monday, Mashup had the privilege of hosting the IEC at the Westbury Library for an important voter awareness and registration drive. The session created space for young people to learn about their role in shaping South Africa’s future, register as new voters, and explore potential job opportunities with the IEC.

In the South African context, the youth voice matters more than ever. Voting is not only a right — it is a powerful way for young people to influence change, strengthen democracy, and ensure that the needs of our communities are heard. When young people show up, participate, and stay informed, they help build a more inclusive and accountable society.

Thank you to the IEC team and to 50 youth who took a step toward active citizenship. 🇿🇦

Investing in Futures | Thank You Old Mutual

Yesterday we had the privilege of welcoming Old Mutual to the Westbury Youth Centre, where they generously donated three laptops to support the growth and development of our young people. Thank you for investing in our community and believing in the potential that lives here.

Together we continue to create spaces where Westbury youth can learn, grow, and access real opportunities. These laptops are more than equipment — they are tools that open doors to skills development, education, and brighter futures.

📌 From Vision to Action | Personal Development Plans 📌

Following last week’s Vision Board session, Mashup students took the next important step by attending a Personal Development Plan (PDP) workshop today, turning ideas into clear, actionable goals. As the saying goes, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”

We were privileged to have two seasoned facilitators, Patrick Jacobs and Milk-Sophia Jardine, who generously shared their wisdom, lived experience, and practical insights with our students.This is what community looks like — people showing up, giving back, and walking alongside our youth as they build their futures.
