Sherlo Team rocking it on Heritage Day 🇿🇦

Due to load shedding stage 4 we have been designing a new power-supply to safely and quickly charge Lithium Polymer LifePO4 6AH, 8AH, 12.8V batteries. The benifit of using lithium boil down to the fact that they can charge up to three times faster (we say under 5 hours). They also have 4 times more charge / discharge cycles than lead acid batteries which sit at around 4000, unlike a lead acid which sit at around 1000. Thats why lead acid batteries these days dont last more than 8 months.
We have also incorporated a jumper so one can set the unit up with an Isolated output. So multiple back up power supplies can be safely connected together or one can do an Emergency back-up lighting system without the need to wire in a seperate relay.

Farewell to one of our longest standing members of staff, Dorah Mphela. She served with us for 27 years and today she has retired. Dorah will be missed by us all. We all wish her many more years of good health, happiness and love while she enjoys her retirement years.

Spotted in a Kenyan Forrest !

This Sykes’ monkey spotted near the River Café demonstrates the well known fact that higher primates are capable of imitative behaviour.

For a year human visitors have been wearing masks when in the forest, frequently losing or discarding them along the trails. Of late FKF Scouts on patrol have been catching sight of Sykes’ and even colobus monkeys sporting masks as well.

Scientists have often recorded complex imitative behaviour in the context of food-getting or play, but it is rare to see a behaviour involving wearing an object — a face mask in this case — that the animals learn to use to increase their survival and reproductive fitness.
