At KHULA!, we believe providing access to credit is only half the battle. To truly move the needle for emerging farmers, we must bridge the gap between opportunity and understanding. Last week, we hosted an intensive in-office training session with AECI Plant Health and Land Bank.

A key part of this journey is moving from paper-based tracking to real-time financial clarity. By integrating Xero into our ecosystem, we are helping farmers see their numbers clearly, manage their cash flow, and stay "bank-ready" at all times. When a farmer masters their accounts on Xero, they aren't just farming—they are running a data-driven business.

A look back at one of our training session with Kagiso Trust in partnership with The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) held in December last year. As we prepare for the training sessions that will be taking place this year, We look forward to continue working with Subtrop and other associations as we work to reach and support even more farmers within the sector.

We kicked off our first Gauteng training session for the Market Access Programme with Kagiso Trust last week, and what a great start it was. The session focused on practical ways to improve yields through better production planning. We covered crop nutrition, protection, and seed selection for vegetables — with real conversations, real questions and real learning in the room.

Our agronomy team also did a soil sampling demo, showing farmers how to take proper samples and why it matters for crop performance. We’ll be sending those samples to the lab so farmers can receive accurate insights and recommendations for the season ahead.

Looking forward to the next session with other farmers in other provinces.

This week marked the official launch of the Kagiso Trust and Khula! Market Access Programme. We brought together industry leaders, funders, agribusinesses, development partners, and commodity groups to explore how this initiative will roll out across South Africa. Guests also got an exclusive preview of the training material and the digital tools designed to help farmers improve productivity and access new markets.
We’re excited to begin this journey to create real opportunities for emerging farmers across the country.

In our fourth story, we had the pleasure of speaking with Bradley and Charlene, farmers based in Swartberg, KwaZulu-Natal. They specialize in grain and potato farming and have been working with us for the past two to three years. During this time, they’ve purchased their production inputs, accessed financing and markets, and received ongoing support from our Relationship Manager in their area.
