Northbound Networks is thrilled to share that the NMU AEDG team successfully defended their title at the UFS KOVSIES Eco-Vehicle 2.0 competition on Saturday, 29 August 2026, winning the Endurance Race for the second consecutive year. 🚀

The race tested teams on laps completed, energy usage, driver changes and the challenging Joker Lap.

NMU AEDG team member Abhay Daya shared:
“After much testing, fine-tuning and lots of hours of work, we finally entered the race. It didn’t start according to plan, with our smart lap being invalidated due to a throttle issue. After returning to the pits and speaking to officials, we took a five-second penalty to run our smart lap before starting the Endurance Race.

Our strategy was simple: conserving energy was our main priority. We started at around six to seven minutes per lap, moved to around four minutes through the middle of the race, and in the final 10–12 minutes instructed our driver to pick up the pace, averaging a consistent two minutes per lap.

At one point, we had around ±10% more energy left than our competitors. NMU was also one of only two teams to complete the Joker Lap correctly on Lap 2, so we knew we had made the right strategy call, backed by a great team.

We held our fingers, praying that all our hard work would pay off, and it did. NMU now holds two consecutive Endurance Race titles for the KOVSIES Eco-Vehicle 2.0 competition.

We are extremely thankful to all our sponsors, lecturers, friends and family who supported us and believed in us.”

A huge congratulations to the entire team. Northbound Networks is proud to support NMU AEDG and celebrate this incredible achievement. 🏆

Q4 has a habit of getting busy quickly.

More deadlines, more activity and less time to deal with technology problems that could have been picked up earlier.

Before the year-end rush, it’s worth checking whether your IT support, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity, network, user access and cloud environment are ready for what comes next.

We’ve put together 6 areas businesses should review before Q4.

Cybersecurity works better when your tools aren’t working in isolation.

When endpoint and firewall security can share information, your business gains a more connected view of what’s happening across the environment.

Less working in silos. More coordinated security.

Moving to the cloud is one step. Managing it well is what comes next.

Costs, performance, security and business needs change over time, which means your cloud environment needs ongoing attention too.

Keep your cloud working for the business, not simply running in the background.

If someone left your business today, would you be completely confident that their access was removed everywhere?

Disabling the mailbox is only the first step.

SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, business applications and guest access can all remain active if offboarding is not properly reviewed.

The risk is not always a lack of security tools. Sometimes, it is simply not knowing who still has access to what.

Access builds up over time. A regular Microsoft 365 review can help uncover the permissions, accounts and access that may have been overlooked.

Leaving the business should mean leaving the systems too.

Your network is the backbone of your business, and when it starts struggling, your team feels it.

Slow Wi-Fi, unreliable connections, limited visibility or the wrong access can quickly become productivity and security problems.

A strong business network needs the right coverage & capacity, speed & reliability, security & visibility, access and scalability to keep everything moving.

Make sure your network is built for the business you’re running today, and where you’re going next.

Northbound Networks is proud to sponsor the Nelson Mandela University Advanced Engineering and Design Group (AEDG) as they head to the Kovsie ACT Eco-Vehicle Race at the University of the Free State from 26 to 30 August 2026.

The competition brings together university teams who have spent months designing, building, programming and testing their own solar-powered eco-vehicles, before putting them through challenges that test engineering, energy efficiency, endurance and innovation.

The main event takes place on 29 August, where the teams will put their engineering and design skills to the test.

For us, supporting the AEDG team is also an opportunity to support the development of STEM skills and young engineering talent in South Africa.

We wish the team every success as they take on the 2026 competition and look to defend their 2025 title! 🚀

Some of the most valuable IT work is the work your employees never need to see.

The issue identified before it becomes downtime. The backup checked before it is needed. The capacity problem addressed before performance starts affecting the team.

In our latest thought-leadership article, our CEO explores why good IT Support should be measured by more than how quickly problems are fixed, and why prevention, visibility and continuity matter just as much.

Because when IT is being managed well, the result is often simple.

Your team gets on with business.
