Today we look at a simple way to cleaning your mouse.

You will need:
Pledge Wipes
1x Cotton Swab

Step 1: gently brush the mouse with a cleaning wipe.
Step 2: Depending on the type of mouse, you should be able to pop off the primary clicking buttons the way you would a keyboard's keys, and be able to clean the dirt out that gets in under the buttons.
Step 3: Use another wipe to get rid of the gunk that seems to glue itself to the mouse pads underneath the mouse.
Step 4: If you have an old mouse with a ball, remove the cover from the bottom of the mouse and wipe the ball as well as the area it sits in.
Or
If you own an optical mouse, gently insert a cotton swab into where the LED light is located and that should remove any dirt trapped there.

Power outages and surges can be very scary especially when your computer could be at risk.

Many go over the common debate of surge protectors vs UPS systems when it comes to protection.
However, when running an office environment or have many desktops connected in your home the best route to go would be a UPS

What is a UPS?
It is an uninterrupted power supply that protects against power surges and runs on an automated battery backup so you have time to save your files and shut down your computer safely during a power outage.

We at ChallisIT have UPS options available and please don't hesitate to contact us for a quote on 0317653223 or [email protected]

We all know that our keyboards get rather dirty with frequent use.
Today we go over tips and useful items for a basic clean.
You will need: a Cotton Swab, rubbing alcohol and water.

1. Unplug your keyboard and Turn it over and shake all of the loose dust and crumbs out.
2. If you have a compressed air cleaner give the keyboard a brief going over, while it is still upside down, otherwise use a hair dryer on a low setting and hold it 6 cm away from the keyboard.
3. Mix a solution of half water and half rubbing alcohol, mix well and dip your cotton swap into the mixture, then gently wipe your keyboard with the swab, pay special attention to the keys that are frequently used.
4. Use a paper towel to dry off any excess solution so that it does not damage the electronics between the keys.

Once that is all done you can plug in your keyboard and you're ready to go.

So this article is dated from 2013, but it still happens. My Grandmother got the call but had the smarts to say that she doesn't own a computer, and again they tried and she explained again that she had lots of capable Grandchildren to help her with her computer and she doesn't wish to be called again. That was the end of that. The problem is you need to make sure ALL family members know about this scam and to just put the phone down.
Bravo to this guy from Malwarebytes for taking time to do this video. You don't need to watch the whole video, but watch the beginning, and especially the end where the "IT Tech" becomes very rude.

A senior security researcher from Malwarebytes has played along with a Microsoft technical support scammer, documenting the whole episode in a video, to showcase the social engineering that takes place
