13 August 2022
The MEC for Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs Siboniso Duma, who is also the Leader of Government Business, has planned engagements with stakeholders as part of efforts aimed at rebuilding the economy.
“Since the swearing-in, we are inundated with calls from big business, communities and leaders of society. We are inspired by the fact that, all stakeholders want to join hands with us to turn around the situation,” Duma said, ahead of his visit to the Twelve Apostles Church, in Ezingolweni on the South Coast Region.
He stated that the ANC-led provincial government had a plan to engage with church leaders and their congregation. This is part of efforts focusing on driving socio-economic development throughout the corners of the province.
“We have a duty as government to come closer to leaders of different faith and their worshippers. We must help them with socio-economic programmes to ensure a total and complete upliftment of a human being. We are referring to one's spiritual, social and economical stability,” he pointed out.
He further emphasized: “Our country is in need of development - so is our province. We need the partnership of government, churches and the community to make sure that we change the lives of our people.”
He stressed that poverty was the biggest challenge that all people in developing countries faced.
“Despite the large resource base in our continent in terms of good soil, rainfall, mineral resources and many other natural features – our continent remains poor. This has to be changed. And KwaZulu-Natal as a gateway to Africa and the world must engineer that change,” he concluded.
