We are aimed to be the biggest one stop shop for 3D printing hardware and consumables in South Africa. Our core values are customer satisfaction, to be known as a supplier with integrity, to develop and grow our people and to do what we do with passion.

3D Printing Store.co.za started in 2013 from a feeling of frustration due to not being able to buy the 3D Printer components we need for our pr

oject in South Africa. After doing market research we saw that there are a lot of people besides us having this exact same feeling. Mahatma Gandhi said: "Be the change you want to see in the world" and he is a lot smarter than we are, so we followed his advice and started 3D Printing Store.co.za. We are very passionate about 3D printing and the whole Reprap open source development. We like to try new things, to develop new processes and then to give it back to the community. That is why we are always trying to push the boundaries and broaden the horizon.

❄️ Cold weather is changing your prints — and most people don’t even realise it.

If your 3D prints are suddenly failing, curling, or not sticking properly in winter, the issue might not be your printer at all… but your slicer settings.

Summer profiles don’t behave the same when temperatures drop. Filament cools faster, shrinks differently, and doesn’t bond the same way between layers.

That’s why you start seeing:
❌ Failed adhesion
❌ Weak layer bonding
❌ Rough or inconsistent surfaces

In this video, we focus purely on winter slicing adjustments that can instantly improve your print quality — no upgrades, no modifications.

Winter Printing Problems? It’s Not Your Printer ❄️🖨️

❄️ Are your 3D prints suddenly failing in winter?

Before you blame your machine… check your slicer settings.

Cold weather changes how filament cools, shrinks, and bonds — which means your summer settings might now be working against you.

👉 Warping
👉 Weak layers
👉 Rough surfaces

It might all come down to slicing.

💧 If your printer sounds like Rice Krispies… your filament may be wet.

Moisture trapped inside filament can cause:
❌ Stringing
❌ Popping sounds
❌ Weak layers
❌ Rough surfaces

Even small amounts of moisture can ruin print quality.

The good news? It’s easy to fix and even easier to prevent.

✅ Pro tip: Store filament in airtight containers with silica gel packs to keep your prints clean and consistent.

Filament Storage Do’s & Don’ts 🧵

Your filament storage matters more than you think 😅
Moisture can cause weak prints, stringing, bubbles & poor layer adhesion.

✅ DO:
* Store filament in airtight containers or vacuum bags
* Add silica gel packs to keep moisture away
* Keep filament out of direct sunlight
* Store in a cool, dry place
* Label your filament with material type & color
* Reseal rolls after every use
* Dry wet filament before printing if needed

❌ DON’T:
* Leave filament open on your printer for weeks
* Store filament in humid rooms or garages
* Expose rolls to heat or sunlight
* Mix different filament types without labels
* Ignore popping/crackling sounds while printing
* Assume new filament is always dry

Take care of your filament and your prints will thank you 🩷

Best PLA 3D Printing Filament Brands Available in South Africa.

PLA filament is the default material for FDM desktop 3D printing across South Africa, chosen for its low warping tendency, plant-based origin, and forgiving print temperatures that suit entry-level machines and high-speed production printers alike. Three brands account for most of the local stock: Creality, Wanhao, and Cron. All three are available in the standard 1.75 mm diameter on 1 kg spools, covering the specification required by the vast majority of 3D printers sold in the South African market. Whether running a personalised gift business from a Randburg garage or prototyping enclosures in a Centurion product design studio, the filament brand on the spool directly affects whether the job finishes cleanly or ends mid-print with a failed layer.

Most people think their printer is the problem…
It’s not.

90% of failed prints come down to small setup mistakes that no one explains properly.

Your first layer? That’s everything.
If it’s off, your entire print is already compromised.
Printing too fast?

You’re trading quality for frustration.
Using cheap filament?
You’ll pay for it in failed prints.

The difference between beginners and pros isn’t the printer…

It’s understanding these small details.
Once you fix them, everything changes.

So tell us—what are you struggling with right now? 👇

🌌✨ May the 4th be with you ✨🌌

At 3D Printing Store, we’ve seen things…
failed first layers more tragic than Anakin’s decision-making 😭⚔️

Printers mysteriously “working yesterday”…
bed levelling that turns into a full Jedi training arc…
and filament that definitely has a mind of its own 😌🧵

But don’t worry…
use the Force.
(or just re-level the bed properly 👀)
