A quick reminder before you click that link…
This email landed in my inbox this morning and, at first glance, it looks like a genuine domain renewal notice.
But look a little closer.
The sender's email address isn't from Domains.co.za, and hovering over the Renew Subscription button shows that the link goes to a completely different website.
This is a phishing email designed to get you to click a fake link.
A few simple habits can help:
Check the actual sender's email address, not just the name displayed.
Hover over buttons and links before clicking to see where they really go.
If an email says something urgent needs renewing or paying, rather open the company's website yourself and log in there.
If you're unsure, don't click - check with me first.
Scam emails are getting increasingly convincing. Taking an extra few seconds to check can save you a great deal of trouble.
