For years, Luvuyo Wogqoyi stood behind the camera, making sure other people’s stories were seen.

When stage 5 kidney failure interrupted his work, people made sure his story was seen too. 📸💜

By 7th September, 248 donors had raised more than R74,960 towards ongoing dialysis, medical cover and transport to treatment.

The real impact sits beyond that total: more time with his six-year-old daughter, and space to hold onto the hope of returning to the work he loves.

This morning, we witnessed kindness and the power of people coming together. Nala’s Save His Sight campaign was featured on Kaya 959 with DJ Fresh (SA), where Simbulele Jezile, PR Lead at BackaBuddy, joined the conversation on medical crowdfunding and community support.

One of the most powerful moments came when a listener, Dr Tebogo Maleka, called in and offered to help Nala take an important first step in his treatment journey.

This is what happens when trusted media voices, caring professionals and everyday South Africans work together, sharing causes, communities respond, and families feel less alone.

Nala’s campaign has already raised over R29 000 towards his R60 000 goal, with 65 donors standing behind him.

“I thought BackaBuddy was just a bunch of bots.”

We can confirm: no. 😂

These are some of the actual humans behind the screens.

A few of our team got together at the VUSA Cycle Challenge this weekend to support an organisation doing incredible work.

We spend most of our days helping people tell their stories, rally communities and turn generosity into real-world impact.

Getting to see that community spirit in person? Even better. 💜

Small team. Big belief in what people can do when they show up for each other.

Three and a half years after a motorcycle accident left his right arm paralysed, Henno Hendrikse crossed the Ironman 70.3 Mossel Bay finish line.

That moment proved what can begin when someone refuses to let a setback write the final chapter.

Henno’s campaign is creating space for adapted equipment, coaching and the preparation behind the next part of his endurance journey.

Meet Ayakha. 💜

When the Delfi fire trapped Doddy upstairs, it was Ayakha who raced through heat and smoke until he found her and carried her to safety on his back.

He wasn’t looking for praise. He saw someone who needed him, and stepped forward.

A BackaBuddy campaign has now been created as a gift for this extraordinary Durban chef.

With so much happening in the world, it’s worth pausing to notice the good too. 💛🇿🇦

This week, South Africans showed up for young dreamers, rallied for greater inclusion, turned one learner’s brave request into something bigger, and walked alongside a team returning a rescued barn owl to the wild.

These stories may be different, but each one reminds us what happens when ordinary people choose to care.
