Cape winters are especially tough for animals without proper shelter. Last week, the KRS team once again spent the day at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, building kennels and getting stuck in to support an incredible cause.

It was a small way to make a difference, but one we're proud to have been part of.

If you'd like to support animals in need, the SPCA welcomes donations, gifts in kind, volunteers, and support for its fundraising events all year round, not just on Mandela Day. Link in the comments.

How did you spend your 67 minutes this Mandela Day?

Three rules govern how AI gets used at KRS: every line gets reviewed before it ships, every project runs test-driven development, and AI does not touch infrastructure.

We asked Justin Engle, software engineer at KRS, what that actually looks like day to day. Here's some of what he had to say.

We're back from DDD Europe, and what an incredible few days of learning it was in Antwerp, Belgium. 🇧🇪

A big thank you to DDD Europe for an amazing conference. Great talks, great people, and plenty of ideas to bring home.

Our team came back with sharper opinions and plenty we're already putting to work. We'll share our learnings soon, so watch this space.

In our latest blog, Ayesha Bagus looks at the rise of the AI-native developer and what it means for how we bring young talent into the industry.

A few points that stood out:

▪ AI-native developers don't see AI as a separate tool, but part of the workflow from day one, with no old habits to unlearn

▪ The scarce skill is moving from writing code to judging it: knowing whether output is correct in context, not how much you can produce by hand

▪ The real question isn't if you hire juniors. It's how you train them

One week to go!!

Lorraine Steyn and Ayesha Bagus are doing their final run-throughs before heading to Antwerp for DDD Europe 2026!!!

Their hands-on lab, Explore Leverage Points from Systems Thinking, looks at how to find meaningful intervention points in complex systems, especially relevant in a time of rapid AI-driven change.

Being invited back to speak is something we don't take for granted.

If you'll be at DDD Europe, come say hello. 🇧🇪

What does responsible AI-accelerated development actually look like day-to-day?

Justin Engle, a senior developer at KRS, breaks it down in our new blog. He covers the tools he uses, the three rules that govern AI use at KRS, and why code review is non-negotiable.

AI is moving fast. But are we moving too fast?

In our latest blog, Lorraine Steyn, CEO of KRS, shares a grounded perspective on the rise of “vibe coding” in AI development.

A few insights that stood out:

• Speed is exciting, but without proper oversight, it can come at the cost of quality and security
• AI-generated code still needs human accountability (no shortcuts there)
• Strong engineering fundamentals aren’t optional. They’re what everything depends on

It’s a timely perspective as more teams lean into AI-driven development. The tools are powerful, but the responsibility doesn’t go away.

Definitely worth the read 👇
