This week, the KRS team headed to one of our client's offices for a product discovery session around a new app idea.

There was plenty of discussion, questions, different perspectives, and a fair amount of “but what if we did it this way?”

We also talked about how we can use AI to move from an idea to something tangible much faster. The ability to take something rough and get to a version you can actually see and play with changes the conversation completely.

Now we get to take the conversation out of the room and into a prototype.

A great evening at Suits & Sneakers last week. 👟

We joined Richard Mulholland at The Tryst in Woodstock for "How to Become a Voice of Authority", a lively session on stepping up, sharing what you know, and becoming a voice of authority in your own right.

There were plenty of laughs, some thought-provoking ideas, and, as always, good conversations with interesting people. We can't wait for the next one!

AI-First Graduate Engineering Programme 2027 - Applications are now open!!

KRS is looking for up to 8 aspiring software engineers to join our 6-week, in-person graduate programme in Cape Town, starting 18 January 2027.

We’ve been running graduate and internship programmes for 15 years, and this will be our second year running an AI-first programme.

To apply, you’ll need:

• Matric and a completed IT-related degree, diploma or certificate
• Programming experience in C # or Java
• A genuine interest in software development
• Curiosity about how AI is changing the way we build software
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• To be based in Cape Town
• South African citizenship or a valid South African work permit
• Above-average academic results are preferred. If you’re self-taught, show us what you’ve built. We’d love to see your portfolio.

How it works:

Successful candidates will be invited to an in-person technical interview.

Our Head of People, Ayesha Bagus, had the privilege of attending a Women’s Day networking event at the One&Only Cape Town, celebrating women who are breaking barriers and forging their own paths.

There were so many inspiring stories: a woman who left the corporate world and became a karate instructor, another who stepped into leadership of a large organisation in a challenging environment, and female executives under 40 already making an incredible impact in their fields.

Different industries, different journeys, but the same thread running through all of them: women choosing to step forward, take up space and redefine what’s possible.

A really inspiring afternoon, and a great reminder of how much talent, courage and ambition there is in the women around us.

Cape winters are especially tough for animals without proper shelter. Last week, the KRS team once again spent the day at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, building kennels and getting stuck in to support an incredible cause.

It was a small way to make a difference, but one we're proud to have been part of.

If you'd like to support animals in need, the SPCA welcomes donations, gifts in kind, volunteers, and support for its fundraising events all year round, not just on Mandela Day. Link in the comments.

We're back from DDD Europe, and what an incredible few days of learning it was in Antwerp, Belgium. 🇧🇪

A big thank you to DDD Europe for an amazing conference. Great talks, great people, and plenty of ideas to bring home.

Our team came back with sharper opinions and plenty we're already putting to work. We'll share our learnings soon, so watch this space.

In our latest blog, Ayesha Bagus looks at the rise of the AI-native developer and what it means for how we bring young talent into the industry.

A few points that stood out:

▪ AI-native developers don't see AI as a separate tool, but part of the workflow from day one, with no old habits to unlearn

▪ The scarce skill is moving from writing code to judging it: knowing whether output is correct in context, not how much you can produce by hand

▪ The real question isn't if you hire juniors. It's how you train them
