Sophisticated theft out of vehicle syndicate apprehended
East London
On 14 and 15 May 2026 in the East London area there was a surge in theft out of motor vehicle incidents. Guardian Defence Security (GDS) were contacted and requested to assist in the tracing of the suspects and their vehicle.
Using various techniques including the use of technology assets such as ANPR, the surveillance team established that the target vehicle was making use of multiple sets of false number plates, which GDS was able to identify.
On 16 May the target vehicle left the East London area and appeared to be en-route to KZN, presumably with a large quantity of stolen property in the vehicle.
The GDS operations team sprang into action, co-ordinating with SAPS units along the suspects’ route. After a brief car chase, the target vehicle was intercepted by SAPS Port Shepstone Highway Patrol along the N2. The vehicle was stopped and its two occupants were detained.
A search of the vehicle revealed a significant quantity of stolen property and it was found that the suspects were linked to multiple case numbers originating in the East London area.
Further investigation by the SAPS revealed that the detained suspects were part of a sophisticated theft out of motor vehicle syndicate operating out of the KZN area, with multiple additional cases having been identified in which the same suspects were involved in the commission of crime.
This was a great win for Guardian Defence Security, SAPS and ANPR tech. GDS continues in its mission to keep clients and the city safer, leaving nowhere for criminals to hide.
