Free Profit Margin Calculator App

Quick test.

You buy a product for R100. You sell it for R150. What is your margin?

If you answered 50%, that's the markup, not the margin.
The margin is 33.3%.

It is the single most common pricing mistake small businesses make. And it is the easy one.

The hard ones look like this:

- A 2.9% payment gateway, 10% marketplace commission, and a 5% return allowance is 17.9% of your selling price gone before any margin starts.
- A R12 USD product at R18.50 / USD plus 20% customs duty plus 15% import VAT is R270.84 per unit landed, and it jumps to R317.80 if you are not VAT registered. Same product. Same supplier. Different paperwork.
- A 35% wholesale discount on a 22%-margin product is a tier that loses you money on every order.
- Matching a competitor's price without checking your fee load is how a "competitive" SKU goes negative.

I have just put up a free browser tool that does all of this maths for you.

- VAT, GST and sales tax (South Africa, UK, US, Australia, or custom)
- Margin vs markup side-by-side, so you can never confuse them again
- Landed cost on imports, registration-aware
- Minimum selling price that folds in gateway and marketplace fees
- Maximum safe discount before you break even
- Break-even chart with a marker at your expected monthly volume
- Wholesale tier table that flags any tier below your minimum margin
- Competitor comparison that shows your margin if you match
- Scenario simulator: supplier hike, discount, FX swing, fee bump

No signup. No cloud account. No AI. Pure formula engine you can audit.
Your pricing data stays in your browser. Backups via JSON export.

Use it here:
https://antondevilliers.com/tools/free-profit-margin-calculator?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=free_profit_margin_app_launch

If it finds a margin error in your pricing, that is the proof. Share it with one operator who is still quoting markup and meaning margin.

When your pricing has outgrown a single-device calculator (multi-user approvals, audit trails, pricing that feeds straight into billing and inventory), that is when a proper internal platform makes sense, off-the-shelf or custom-built around your business.

But for everyone else, start with the calculator. Get the maths right first.

Sole traders. Freelancers. Founders. Small business owners. Established SMEs. In-house marketing teams at larger companies. Corporate professionals tidying up their personal signature. Bookkeepers and accountants advising clients. Agency and studio operators.

I built this for you.

A free email signature creator.

Not a template gallery you have to sign up for.
Not a free trial.
Not one of those tools where you fill in half the form and then it asks you to create an account.

You open it and use it.

It has four modes:

- Signature, sixteen layouts. Paste into Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird.
- Branded email, ten templates for the emails that need more than a signature: a general branded email, a quote follow-up, an invoice sent, a payment reminder, an appointment confirmation, a meeting follow-up, a welcome, a support response, a project update, an announcement.
- Disclaimer, ten templates including a POPIA / privacy notice for South Africa, sector blocks for legal, medical and financial practices, a VAT footer, a company registration footer, and a custom slot where you write your own.
- Designer, a drag-and-drop block canvas where you build a custom email layout, drag-and-drop, undo and redo. For people who care about how the email looks.

The output is email-safe HTML, the kind that survives the trip from the editor to the email client without breaking in Outlook. You copy it, you paste it, it works.

No signup.
No cloud account.
Your name, contact details, company info, profile photo and brand colours stay in your browser.

That last part matters. POPIA-conscious operators do not have to upload a company profile to a server just to get a signature. The tradeoff: because the data is local to your browser, you must export backups. Every project exports as a JSON file you control.

This is not a deployment platform. It does not push signatures across an Office 365 or Google Workspace tenant. It does not enforce a brand-locked signature for fifty staff. It does not give legal, POPIA, tax or SARS advice. The disclaimer templates are starting points, not opinions.

It is a practical email-signature tool for any business, micro to large, that wants its email to look like the business it represents.

Use it here:
https://antondevilliers.com/tools/email-signature-generator?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=free_email_sig_app_launch

If it helps you, share it with one person who needs a tidy email signature.

When you need more than a paste-it-yourself tool (central signature deployment across an Office 365 or Google Workspace tenant, brand-locked templates the team cannot edit out, audit trails, click analytics), that is where I can help with a proper internal-tooling system, off-the-shelf or custom-built around your business.

But for everyone else, start with the free tool.

Freelancers. Consultants. Small agencies. Contractors bidding on tenders. Founders pricing their first paying client. Anyone who is still quoting projects from a single cell in a spreadsheet.

I built this for you.

A free project estimator.

Not a SaaS trial.
Not a signup wall.
Not one of those tools where you fill in half the estimate and then it asks you to create an account.

You open it and use it.

It does:

- Six profiles to start from — Software, Website, Consulting, Tender, Freelancer, Custom
- Six estimation methods — PERT three-point (O + 4M + P)/6, weighted, three-point average, parametric (quantity × hours per unit), analogous (reference × similarity × complexity), and fixed
- Roles and rates, phases and tasks, expenses, contingency, management reserve, markup and VAT
- A risk register where each risk has a probability and an impact in cost and hours
- Milestones that must add to 100%
- A simple Gantt-style timeline
- A printable A4 estimate report — cover, summary, assumptions, exclusions, totals, line items, expenses, risks, timeline, milestone schedule, signature blocks
- Cost composition, phase, role and milestone charts
- JSON backup the user controls

It also runs a rule engine over your estimate. It flags missing project management, missing QA on software work, no deployment allowance, no contingency, no risk register, no warranty / support, milestones not summing to 100%, timeline too short, fixed-price scope without exclusions, and tender estimate without assumptions.

That last list is the part most quotes quietly skip — and that is where the margin disappears.

No signup.
No cloud account.
Your pricing data stays in your browser.

That last part matters. Rates, margins, client names and risk notes are commercial. Nothing about your estimates is uploaded to a server. The tradeoff: because the data is local to your browser, you must export backups regularly. The Backup tab does that as a JSON file you control.

No AI. The estimator is script-driven — formulas and JSON rule lists. No API calls. No black box.

This is not a contract or legal / tax / accounting / quantity-surveying advice. Scope, assumptions and exclusions remain your responsibility.

It is a practical estimating tool for freelancers, consultants and small agencies who need a defensible estimate without paying for software they are not ready for.

Use it here:
https://antondevilliers.com/tools/free-project-estimator?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=free_project_estimator_launch

If it helps you, share it with one freelancer or PM who needs it.

When your estimating grows past this stage — multi-user access, audit trails, integrations, an estimate-to-billing pipeline — that is where I can help with a proper platform, custom-built around your business.

But if you are still quoting one project at a time, start with the free tool.

Micro business owners. Spaza shop owners. Small farmers. People who employ a domestic worker, gardener, nanny or au pair. Small contractors. Bookkeepers looking after one or two micro-business clients.

I built this for you.

A free South African payslip generator.

Not a template.
Not a free trial.
Not one of those tools where you fill in half the payslip and then it asks you to create an account.

You open it and use it.

It does:

- Employer profile and saved workers
- BCEA Section 33 payslip information
- Earnings and deductions (each deduction labelled by purpose, as the law requires)
- Hours and rates — ordinary, overtime, Sunday, public holiday
- UIF calculated for you when enabled — 1% from the employee + 1% from the employer, capped at the SARS monthly UIFable-income ceiling
- A UIF Reports tab summarising contributions per period
- A live A4 preview, a clean PDF download, and a WhatsApp-ready share message
- A Backup tab that exports your records as JSON

No signup.
No cloud account.
Your employee data stays in your browser.

That last part matters. Employee names, ID numbers and salaries are sensitive. Nothing about your workers is uploaded to a server. The tradeoff: because the data is local to your browser, you must export backups regularly. The Backup tab does that as a JSON file you control.

This is not a full payroll system. PAYE is not auto-calculated. The tool does not file UIF declarations, EMP201 or IRP5. Sectoral determinations stay with the employer. It is not legal, tax, payroll, UIF, SARS or labour advice.

It is a practical payslip tool for South African small employers who need a defensible, BCEA-aligned payslip without paying for software they are not ready for.

Use it here:
https://antondevilliers.com/tools/free-payslip-generator-south-africa?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=free_payslip_app_launch

If it helps you, share it with one small employer who needs it.

When your payroll grows past this stage — multi-employee runs, leave tracking, UIF/PAYE submissions, audit trails — that is where I can help with a proper payroll system, off-the-shelf or custom-built around your business.

But if you are still small, start with the free tool.

Small business owners, freelancers, side-hustlers, operators.

I built this for you.

I made a free billing app for South Africa.

Not a spreadsheet template.
Not a free trial.
Not one of those tools where you fill in half the document and then it asks you to create an account.

You open it and use it.

It does:

- Invoices
- Quotes
- Credit notes
- VAT
- Clients
- Saved products and services
- Logo upload
- Print or save as PDF
- JSON backup export and import

No signup.
No cloud account.
Your billing data stays in your browser.

That last part is important.

Because the data stays local, you need to export backups regularly. If you clear your browser data or move devices without a backup, your saved records can be lost.

This is not meant to replace your accountant or proper accounting software.

It is a practical billing tool for people who need to get documents out quickly without paying for software before they are ready.

Use it here:
https://antondevilliers.com/tools/free-invoice-generator-south-africa?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=free_billing_app_launch

If it helps you, share it with a small business owner who needs this.

And when your business grows past this stage, that is where I can help with the advanced version.

Staff access. Online sync. Recurring billing. Payment tracking. Bookings. Stock. Customer portals. Audit trails. BX1X-style operations.

But if your billing is still simple, start with the free tool.

I built ten AI apps for my own business before I built a single one for a client.

They run inside my operations every day. Searching, writing, prospecting, planning, estimating, accounting, contracting.

One of them already produced a real result — a first-page Google ranking for "custom software developer Cape Town", confirmed on 12 April 2026. Not a screenshot from a keyword tool. The actual page, indexed, on page one.

The full catalogue is here — what each app does, what it produces, what it took to build, and how clients access it (private, consultation only — these aren't products for sale):

https://antondevilliers.com/blog/custom-ai-apps-i-built-for-my-business

The short version of the same thing, if you'd rather skim:

https://antondevilliers.com/ai-apps

Each app is a multi-stage pipeline with eval gates between every stage. Not a wrapper around ChatGPT. A wrapper can't rank a page or close a financial year with no unmatched lines.

If one of these matches a problem you have, the consultation is where we decide fit. I review every enquiry personally and I don't take every project.

You could be the best plumber in Cape Town, but if Google can't find you, neither can your customers.

I audited 5 plumber websites in Cape Town recently. 4 out of 5 had basic SEO problems that were making them practically invisible in search results.

Here's what I kept seeing:

📌 No meta descriptions, or worse, meta descriptions with spelling errors. One site's Google listing included "expereinced" and "Northen Surburbs." That's the first thing a potential customer reads about your business.

📌 Identical page titles on every page. Home, About, Services, Contact, all with the same title tag. Google sees that as duplicate content and doesn't know which page to show.

📌 No structured data. 3 out of 5 sites had zero schema markup. That means no star ratings, no service areas, no business hours in search results. All the rich detail that makes someone click on your listing instead of a competitor's? Missing.

None of this is advanced SEO. It's the foundation. And without it, you're relying on word of mouth while your competitors, even ones doing worse work, are getting the Google traffic.

The good news: most of these fixes don't require a rebuild. A few hours of targeted work on your metadata, headings, and schema can make a real difference.

Let me ask you something.

When a customer places an order on your online store - what happens next?

If you're like most business owners I talk to, here's the truth:

You copy the order into an invoice. Manually.
You email the warehouse. Manually.
You update a spreadsheet for delivery. Manually.
You reconcile your books at month-end. Manually.

Your store takes the order. You do everything else.

I built BX1X because that's broken.

Whether you're selling physical products, subscriptions, bookings, bundles, or digital downloads - every order type flows through the same connected system.

In BX1X, when an order comes in, the invoice generates automatically. Stock is reserved. Your fulfilment queue walks you through picking, packing, and shipping - clear stages, nothing falling through the cracks. Your books update as it happens. Returns and credit notes are handled in the same system.

One order. One system. From sale to shipment.

And you don't need a new website. BX1X plugs the store right into the site you already have.

One system instead of five. Built in South Africa. You pay in rands - your store handles any currency.

Browse the live demo store - see it for yourself.
