Free Profit Margin Calculator App
Quick test.
You buy a product for R100. You sell it for R150. What is your margin?
If you answered 50%, that's the markup, not the margin.
The margin is 33.3%.
It is the single most common pricing mistake small businesses make. And it is the easy one.
The hard ones look like this:
- A 2.9% payment gateway, 10% marketplace commission, and a 5% return allowance is 17.9% of your selling price gone before any margin starts.
- A R12 USD product at R18.50 / USD plus 20% customs duty plus 15% import VAT is R270.84 per unit landed, and it jumps to R317.80 if you are not VAT registered. Same product. Same supplier. Different paperwork.
- A 35% wholesale discount on a 22%-margin product is a tier that loses you money on every order.
- Matching a competitor's price without checking your fee load is how a "competitive" SKU goes negative.
I have just put up a free browser tool that does all of this maths for you.
- VAT, GST and sales tax (South Africa, UK, US, Australia, or custom)
- Margin vs markup side-by-side, so you can never confuse them again
- Landed cost on imports, registration-aware
- Minimum selling price that folds in gateway and marketplace fees
- Maximum safe discount before you break even
- Break-even chart with a marker at your expected monthly volume
- Wholesale tier table that flags any tier below your minimum margin
- Competitor comparison that shows your margin if you match
- Scenario simulator: supplier hike, discount, FX swing, fee bump

If it finds a margin error in your pricing, that is the proof. Share it with one operator who is still quoting markup and meaning margin.
When your pricing has outgrown a single-device calculator (multi-user approvals, audit trails, pricing that feeds straight into billing and inventory), that is when a proper internal platform makes sense, off-the-shelf or custom-built around your business.
But for everyone else, start with the calculator. Get the maths right first.
