October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
It exists for a simple reason: more of our banking, work, communication, shopping and personal information now lives online, so basic digital security matters.
A few of the most useful things you can do:
Turn on two-step verification, especially for your email and banking.
Use a different password for every important account.
If an unexpected message asks you to log in, don’t use the link. Open the official app or website yourself.
Keep your devices and apps updated.
And don’t forget the device connecting your home to the internet: your router. Check its passwords, updates and security settings too.
None of these steps makes you immune to cybercrime. They do remove some of the easiest ways for someone to get into your accounts or network.
