🥇 First gets remembered. Second gets compared.

What if the secret to growing your practice isn't spending MORE on marketing… but making sure your competitors are playing catch-up?

🔥 Be the first. Own the conversation. Become the obvious choice.

On this episode of Tom's World of Marketing, Tom sits down with Tyson Franklin—a podiatry powerhouse who built, scaled, and sold 20+ practices—to talk about the marketing moves that make competitors wish they'd thought of them first.

And Tyson has the stories to prove it. 👀

📺 A competitor who copied his TV commercial.

🎙️ A $90 microphone that powered roughly 400 podcast episodes.

🏆 A strategy for becoming THE name patients associate with a new service.

🤝 A surprisingly overlooked referral source hiding in plain sight.

Plus, Tyson breaks down his Six Pillars of Marketing and shares how to use AI without letting it run wild with your message.

The lesson? You don't need the loudest marketing. You need marketing that makes you impossible to ignore.

💬 If your competitors copied your marketing tomorrow, would patients still know why YOU're different?

Some law firm marketing advice has reached its expiration date.

The problem is that many firms are still making decisions based on assumptions that were formed before AI started changing how people search, research, and evaluate their options.

Ranking #1 still matters. Technical SEO still matters. Doing excellent work certainly matters.

But none of those things, by themselves, guarantee that an AI answer engine will recognize your firm as a credible source—or recommend it when a potential client asks for help.

That’s where the shift to AEO gets interesting.

It’s not about abandoning SEO or chasing the latest shiny object. It’s about making sure the expertise your firm already has is clear, credible, current, and easy for both people and machines to understand.

And it isn’t a box you check once.

Search behavior will keep changing. Answer engines will keep evolving. The firms that adapt will keep building authority while others wonder why yesterday’s playbook isn’t producing yesterday’s results.

We put together four myths we think law firms can officially retire. 👇

Which one are you still hearing most often?

What happens to a law firm when the people who spent nearly half a century building it are ready to walk away?

After almost 46 years in practice, Bob Clark and his partner, Alan Steinhorn, are retiring. Their story raises a question every law firm owner should eventually ask: What are you building today that will still have value when you’re no longer there to run it?

Bob’s answer is particularly interesting because his firm grew without relying on the traditional paid-marketing playbook. No PPC. No AdWords. No SEO agencies. Instead, he built a reputation by taking exceptional care of clients, earning referrals, writing nearly all of his own content, and recording more than 125 podcast episodes over the last decade.

That work didn’t just attract clients. It created something with lasting value: years of original content, a recognizable voice, deep community trust, and intellectual property that continues introducing people to the firm long after it was first published.

In the latest episode of Tom’s World of Marketing, the conversation turns to what happens to all of that when the founders retire. This is a conversation about retirement, but it’s also about legacy, succession, and the difference between simply running a law firm and building something that can outlast you.

Video isn’t just for the people watching anymore. AI is paying attention, too.

As more generic content floods the internet, law firms need stronger ways to show that real expertise stands behind what they publish.

That’s where video can make a difference.

When an attorney gets on camera to explain a legal issue, answer a common client question, or share insight from experience, it gives prospective clients another way to connect with the firm — and gives search and AI systems more context around that expertise.

The strongest strategy is not video or written content. It’s both.
🎥 Video demonstrates the expert behind the message.
📝 Written content gives the topic depth and structure.
📄 Transcripts help make that expertise easier to understand and surface.

Same knowledge. More formats. More opportunities to be found.

For law firms that want to build trust, strengthen their authority, and get more value from the expertise they already have, video should be part of the strategy.

Your website says you’re the best. Of course it does.

But search engines, AI platforms, and prospective clients are looking for something more convincing: corroboration.

Who else is talking about you? Where else does your expertise show up? What independent sources back up the story your website tells?]

Because your website can make the claim. The rest of the internet helps make the case.

Law Firm Marketing Is Dead. Well… the version most law firms learned is, anyway.

We’ve watched the Yellow Pages disappear, billboard wars get weird, and law firm domain names become long enough to need their own zip codes.

Now another funeral is underway.

Cause of death? The way people search is changing.

The old playbook was built around winning one of Google’s 10 blue links. Target the right keywords. Publish another generic “5 Things to Do After a Car Accident” article. Fight for that #1 ranking.

But AI is changing the way people find and evaluate information.

The future isn’t about shouting louder or pumping out more generic content. It’s about proving what you know—answering the questions real clients ask, demonstrating genuine experience, earning strong reviews, publishing useful videos and articles, and building a consistent story everywhere your firm appears.

We don’t believe law firm marketing itself is dying.

But many of the tactics built for yesterday’s search experience are.

So, in lieu of flowers, take a hard look at your firm’s marketing.

💐 Retire content that could belong to any law firm in America.
💐 Answer the questions your best clients actually ask.
💐 Create videos, articles, podcasts, and interviews that demonstrate real expertise.
💐 Ask AI tools the questions your prospective clients are asking—and pay attention to which firms show up.

The goal isn’t simply to get better at marketing. It’s to become easier to recognize as the expert.

He’s not an attorney. He’s never worked inside a law firm.

Yet he helped one law firm take its close rate from 50% to 84% in just 90 days.

Michael, co-architect of Your Practice Mastered and leader of The Closing Room, has spent years helping law firms fix intake problems, strengthen their sales processes, and sign more of the clients they actually want.

And the results speak for themselves.

Michael and his team have helped law firms generate more than $20 million in additional revenue—without adding a single new lead.

In this episode of Tom’s World of Marketing, Tom sits down with Michael to unpack an important lesson for law firm owners:

👉 More leads aren’t always the answer. Sometimes, the biggest opportunity is improving what happens to the leads already coming in.

They cover how one firm jumped from a 50% close rate to 84% in 90 days, the 19-step process that makes consultations consistent without sounding scripted, how to hire salespeople who can actually close, why attorneys may not be the best people to handle consultations, and the mindset shift owners need to stop doing everything themselves.

For law firms investing heavily in lead generation but still watching too many opportunities slip away, this episode is worth a watch.

Before AI recommends your law firm, it looks for reasons to trust you. Reviews. Reputation. Authority. Proof.

Together, they create a trust stack that helps potential clients—and increasingly AI platforms—decide whether your firm deserves to be recommended.

The question is: Are you intentionally building yours?

If you’re not sure how your firm’s reputation, content, SEO, and AI visibility fit together, let’s talk about it.
